Just finished reaming chamber for my Ruger #3 with a new take off Ruger #1 20" International barrel. I am interested in anyones experience with 20" barreled 7x57, load data or accuracy loads or recomendations. Thanks, Lynn

I can tell you in my Ruger international 7 x 57, the 139 grain GMX super performance factory loads chronograph about 2550. The Privi 156 grain thunder factory load chronographs only about 2200. I have not chronographed anything else in it. Both shoot well.

Ruger #1 in 7x57 here.

Speer 145 gr. SPBT
H4350, 50.0 gr.

I get a consistent 2,800 fps and 1" groups.

Horn. 175 gr. RN
Ramshot Hunter: 48.0gr

I get 2,500 fps and no pressure signs with 1" groups. I pushed as high as 50.0gr of Hunter with no pressure signs. 48.0 met the velocity I wanted so I didn't bother pushing more.

Regards,

Robert

I shoot a Ruger No. 1 in 7x57. Older, with the slower twist. I shoot 175 gr. Hornady round nose with 51 grains of RL 22. That is a 175 grain spritzer load in one of the older Speer manuals. I worked up to that max in my rifle with the Hornady round nose. If I remember correctly, it gave me a hair over 2500 fps and about 7/8" 5 shot groups. That is after I had a Hicks Accurizer installed. That gun would not shoot anything under a couple of inches prior to the accurizer.

My Ruger #1 A shoots Rem factory 140g CLs into 1 1/2 groups. The speed gun said 2660 fps It did not like the Horn lightmag 139g load.
I loaded 140g Sierras for load workup. Ended at 49g IMR 4350. 3 shots touching @ 100yds.
Then, I found AR and thought I needed a 160g load. 47g IMR 4350 worked very well. LaPour is building me another 7x57 on a Mex. I'll try the same loads b/4 I change anything.

I have a 20" bbl. on my Mark X Mauser. I mostly hunt deer and hogs with it, nothing much larger than medium sized game anyway. I have hunted with almost all available bullets between 139 & 160 grs some 175's also in the over 40 years that I have hunted with this rifle, and have settled on the 150 gr. Sierra (either one) as my favorite. With a max. chg. of H-4350 I get sub-moa groups and average velocity is 2680 fps at 15'. So probably close to 2700 fps muzzle velocity.

velocity is like a new car, always losing value.
BC is like diamonds, holding value forever.

I am shooting a Ruger 77 International Manlicher in 7x57 with a 18.5 barrel as I recall, anyway its a real shorty..These guns have long throats and long magazines and I get more powder in the case than the book calls for and velocity is walking on the shirt tail of a .280. Its in effect a 7x57 Ackley Imp powder space.. I use only H414..Work up your own loads with this powder, the books are weak as they fear frivoulous law suits as so many weak 95, 96 Mausers and falling block 7x57s and 8x57s are floating around out there.

You can do the same with that Ruger single shot if you have the long throat, and with that strong action you won't have any trouble duplicating a 24 inch good Mauser, Rem or win. rifle or a 280 Rem for that matter.
