I have an 84 Montana in .243. It is an instant favorite. So far, with minimum load development using only one powder and bullet, my aggregate group size was .783. I've had one of the uncataloged 8400's with the french walnut stock on order for nearly a month now, but have yet to see it.

Here are some more detailed pictures of the Kimber 8400. This is a 300 WSM with the French Walnut stock but not a SuperGrade......

Right and Left Veiws:

Details of the Bedding, notice the nice pillar bedding job......

Right and left views of the action out of the stock:

The left side of action:

And the bolt and floor plate:

GSP7, Sorry these pics aren't any better, I left them large because you had asked for some detailed shots. It started raining outside so I couldn't get as good of light for the detail shots that you asked for.
The Bolt appears to be 1 pc or has a well hidden weld, I think the Bolt handle should be plenty strong enough -it's not just brazed on.
The trigger is 3 screw adjustable similar to a Remington but made a little different. I've had better luck adjusting them than I have late manufactured Remingtons. I find them to be very good.
I think that the rifles are better bedded than any other normal production rifle that I've ever examined.
If you shop a bit you can find some reasonably nice sticks of wood, I already had a 300 WSM but liked this piece of French Walnut (and it was on sale).........DJ

I picked up one of the Kimber 8400's in 300 WSM at Carter Country in Houston, TX. They had 5 and let me look through them all and pick out the one with the best wood. I found one with a really nice piece of walnut. I mounted a 2.5-8x Leopold scope with the new Boone and Crocket reticle in Talley rings and mounts. I shot 10 rounds through it Sat., cleaning after every shot, while I was breaking the barrel in. I managed to get the point of impact into the 10 ring after 3 shots. It was shooting ~1" group with factory 180 grain Winchester Power Points, even though I was cleaning between each shot. Today (Sun) I loaded up some 168 Barnes X Triple Shocks, 180 gr Nosler Part, 180 gr Nosler Acurabonds, 180 gr Swift Sciroccos, 180 gr Hornaday, and 200 gr Nosler Partitions. I have a chronograph and can't wait to see what they will do (velocity and accuracy). General comments about the rifle: it is a nice trim rifle and I plan to make it my light weight mtn rifle. Wood to metal fit was good and I really like the matt blue finish. The wood has a satin oil type finish. I was shooting a Winchester M-70 7 RemMag at the same session and couldn't tell much differance in the recoil (slight bit more for the 300WSM, but not much). I will report back with how the load development goes.

djpaintles: thanks for all the pictures now I won't have to take mine apart to see what it looks like

I finely got to see and handle a new Kimber 8400 Classic rifle at Sportsmans Warehouse. They only had one and Ive yet to find any other gun shops that carry them.

I was looking at one at the Sportsmans Warehouse in Meridian this weekend. They have four there, a couple of the varmint models, a .243 M84 and a .270 WSM M8400.

The Model 84 is actually a bit too light for my tastes, but at 6 lbs 10 oz, that Model 8400 is just right. Boy oh boy that's a nice rifle!

To my mind this is the ultimate .270 Featherweight, one that Jack O'Connor would have drooled over. Beatiful wood, well balanced, smooth action, all the great features mentioned above.

However, it is right handed and I'm NOT! Arrgghhh! Oh, well, probably a good thing as I'd have to buy two or three of them at least.

The bottom of the receiver is round. It's similar to a Berretta Mato in that it has a round bottom and a recessed recoil lug i.e. you can see it from the top........DJ
