Hi. I'm new to the forum, so please forgive me for any repetition of former posts.

I have plans of setting up the following rifle, and wonder if you guys got som comments and advice?

-HS Precision Heavy Tactical Rifle (left handed) chambered for .338 Laupa Magnum.
-HS Precision 2-piece weaver-base

-NightForce steel rings
-NightForce 5.5-22x56 NXS sight (I am considering the NP-1RR reticle)

-BR Reflex T12 sound supressor (http://guns.connect.fi/rs/index.html)

Accessories:
-Harris bipod
-Accu-Shot monopod
-Badger Ordnance tactical bolt knob

I already have the license for the rifle. I'm just waiting for the money to pay for it.
Sound supressors are legal in Norway, as long as you have a license for the weapon in question. The suppressor are used with full-power ammunition and functions as a very effective recoil- and sound-reducer without affecting accuracy.

The rifle are intended for long range target shooting and long range hunting. An example would be seals (no... not the little fluffy white ones.), where head shots are required and a high velocity is recomended.

I should probably also add that at the moment, I'm not looking for a oddball/wildcat calibre, as I've already decided on .338 laupa magnum.

(If anybody got good loading data fo the above mentioned calibre, I would be happy for that as well... No "supa-dupa monster-force load that shoots 0.00001 MOA and realy kicks... i haven'tried it yet, but it should be fantastic" kind of loads, please...)

That set-up should work well.
Check with the Suppressor manufacturer about compatibility of their design with the fluted barrel on the HS rifle.

I have a Sako TRG-41 model in 338 Lapua. I believe the HS model is better for hunting applications.

The 250 grain Lapua Scenar HPBT bullet works well.
For decreased wind drift when it is really blowing, try the Sierra 300 grain Matchking HPBT.

The Night Force scopes are very well built. They are really good during the day, but if you will be doing a lot of hunting during the artic twilight you might want to look at a European scope. Also, take a look at the Horus Vision website. Many of the Special Operations snipers in the present war in Southwest Asia are using scopes with the Horus Vision Reticle.

Enjoy your rifle when it arrives!

I shoot a Sako TRG-S (I think it is discontinued) in 338 Lapua. It is a sporting rifle. Shoots like a house on fire. Handles everything from 165 barnes to 250 lapua scenars equally well. I shoot it about 9 times a year. Muzzle blast is just plain stupid on that rifle.

I have both an HS Precision HTR and a Sako TRG-42 in 338 Lapua. I would assume that you are going with the HS because of the availability of a left handed version. I prefer the Sako TRG-42 because so far it shoots better than my HS. I'm thinking of bedding my HS to see if it helps. It shoots pretty consistant 1/2 MOA 3 shot groups at 300yds but the TRG is even better.
I've had good luck in both rifles with 250gr Scenars and the max load of VV-N-165 as listed in the VV loading manual #1. Later manuals reduce the max load. The Lapua Brass is excellent. Be aware that the Norma and Lapua brass use different shell holders.
Good Luck.................DJ

Thanks a lot guys. As HS make the rilfe in a left handed version for just $150, that is a very good selling point, yes...

I have a TRG-S Lapua I picked up for cheap when they were first introduced. I used 250gr Partitions for years and the rifle downed 5 elk with that load. Just to try something different, at the last minute I tried a new load of Barnes TX 210s with IMR 4350 in prep for this years deer and cow elk hunt. I didn't have any TX data so I tried a load for the regular 210s and got 3100fps (I'm sure I could get more with development) but this trial load shot so well I just loaded some up and went hunting. On Sunday I got a nice 25" Mulie and a cow elk. Really good performance and not much meat damage. I am very happy with this cartridge. My rifle has the older 24" tube and no brake. When I first got the rifle I thought it was a beast, but after years of shooting a bunch of 375s, 416s and 458 Lotts the recoil and blast seems much less now! Nice round.
