Best factory .30-06 ammo?

Did a search and came up with some threads regarding other calibers but not the .30-06.
In one poll it became evident that about 75% of the forum members reload, so that's not the answer I seek Smiler

What, in your opinion, is the best factory made .30-06 ammo?

For me, the ultimate fallback ammo is the Norma Oryx 180grs - if all else fails, I trust it.

I have very good range experiences with the Federal Trophy Tipped 180grs but no field experience yet.
I bet also any factory ammo with the Nosler AccuBond is a good choice. The handloaded AccuBonds in two calibers have been excellent, in my experience.

My hunting is mostly big game: moose, wild boar, whitetail.
I have been on three safaris and during each I used a .30-06. Based on that experience I consider it a great loss that the Speer Nitrex line of ammo has been discontinued! With the old dual-core African Grand Slams it gave full penetration on all other animals except Eland. And the Eland was a one-shot kill @ 195yds.

If the Lapua works like that on moose, I wouldn't change it. As it will work on anything else.

If you try enough factory loadings, your rifle will tell you what the best loads are. Just consider the bullet weight you need based on the game, then try different factory loads until you find the one that shoots the best. Can't go wrong with TSX, Partitions, Accubonds, Trophy Bondeds, and others.

Biebs said it right. The best factory loaded ammo is what your particular rifle shoots the best. It may be the cheapest or the most expensive.

Times have changed and for the better. I think you would have to look for a "bad" factory load in any cartridge today for hunting. I can see the absolute need for the super long range and .25 moa guys needing to load their own, but today there are really good commercial stuff available.

I hate to confess this but I've had Hornady Custom ammo out shoot my hand loads. It is truely custom; tell them what you're using it for and they'll make up the appropiate ammo for you.

Federal TSX 180gr shoots at .75 in my mod 70. I see no reason to change.

As Ole Miss Guy said above, factory ammo is so much better today.

The 2 I have found to be very good before is the Winchester Supreme and the Weatherby loaded rounds. I dhronographed the Winchester Supreme 7mm RM to be exactly what the listed velocities were from my Model 70. Accurate too with the 160 Nosler Accubond. I took the same ammo in 300 Win Mag elk hunting but didi not get to use it unfortunately.

RWS ! Expensive but it needs an experienced handloader to better or even match it.

I would try the Federal Premiums in a 165 with Nosler BT, Nosler Partition, or Sierra Gameking.
I also think the Fusions are decent.
All that being said, Remington Core Lokt has always been my go to factory ammo! Can't hardly go wrong with it, and they've never let me down in any way. They will generally shoot in about any rifle, in my experience.

If bowler can custom load you some 200 grain Partitions, that would be my choice.

Schaukis,

Whatever factory ammo shoots the best in your rifle with premium bullets. MY 30-06 loves the Federal loading with the 180 TSX. It is very accurate and chronographs at the advertised 2740 fps. I've used it on safari with complete satisfaction.

Cabela's has these Federals on sale right now. I'll probably grab a box since I don't reload for my '06. The ballistic coefficient is around .500 on these Accubonds. So, might be good one to try.

It's been a long, long time since I shot any sort of store bought ammo, except .22 but I would be willing to bet that there is more deer and elk killed each year using Remington than any other. I use core lokt bullets in some of my reloads and they just simply work.

I like the Federal 180 gr. Nosler partition and would use it on any NA animal, big bears included..Also on all African animals for that matter, would require solids on elephant and Hippo..Not my first choice, but many a elephant and Buffalo has met its end by young African boys and girls on their first hunts..

Actually most factory 30-06 ammo works for what its intended for. They been loading the 06 and 30-30 for many years and have about perfected it I suspect...

The old 06 is just an outstanding, awesome caliber, it does it all in the hands of a good shot, but that applies to the 500 Nitro also. doesn't it!

If your primary quarry are hogs and whitetail, you do not need any type of premium bullets.
Like others have said, what shoots accurate in your rifle.
I have been very surprised with Federal Fusion ammo. Relatively inexpensive with a bonded core boat tail projectile.
They make it up through 375 H&H.
Not sure if I would try it out on dangerous game, but who knows?
I would shoot deer and hogs with it all day long.
I handload most of my ammo but buy the fusion for a few guns including a old Win 100 243. With Fusion 95's, this old semi auto will shoot sub 3/4" groups all day long. 5 shot groups!
