The game is whitetale deer. The country is open fields. The rifle is a Savage 16ss .270wsm. But thats not what im talking bout, its time for another rifle. .30 cal. I was thinkin a .308 or 30-06. What would u guys/girls suggest?

Since you already have one savage I assume that you don't have a problem with savage like some people do. and I saw a Savage just this week that I thought looked good. It was the model 12 BVSS in a 308. had laminated stock, stainless fluted barrel. If it shoots as well as the other savages I've seen you can't go wrong.

Good suggestion. Maybe a little on the heavy side. Mine is. If you buy one I would suggest you get a stout portable table to set up on the edge of that white tail field and have a few good friends play dog. roger

You've got a real speed rig with the 270 WSM--(I love mine) in a slightly shorter than .06 action. Go to the .06 for some more versatility in the heavier .30 bullets. Just another thought....

Well since it doesn't sound like you want 1 of each I'd also go for the '06. I happen to have both (3 '06's actually), like both rounds, but since you already have a 270 it seems like the use of heavier bullets would be the way to go. A 180 gr. in an '06 is just about perfect.

I went and checked out the win70 '06 today. It also come with a cheapo simmons scope. But other than that perfect condition. (i thought there would be somthing wrong with it being marked down) but the clerk said they were making room for a heavey bbl remington. What is your takes on this winchester '06? worth buying? or is it just my lust for guns having its way with me?

Neither will do anything your present rifle won't already do. Why not a 45-70 or a 7mm RUM? Now you've got something really different. If you are just stuck on either a 30-06 or .308 go with the 06.

Well i dont want to be limited to a short range catridge but i'm in need of another rifle. Because sometimes buddies tend to laugh at my gun vault. 1 .22lr, 1 .270wsm and 1 12gauge. i figured i could fit a .30 in there somewhere.
