I have a .308 bore custom rifle that I would like a quieter round for enjoyable shooting. I am thinking of using trail boss, but was curious if anyoe had already gone in that direction. If so what were the results? Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! DRSS, double owner-shooter since 1983, O/U .30-06 Browning Continental set.

Tried 5.6 grains of TrailBoss with a Rem 150 RNSP and got 746 ft/secs... one round... didn't press my luck. 16" barrel, must have helped. A forum member has been kind enough to dig up some old notes and suggests around 8 grains for subs with the 150, and about grains with a 180 grain bullet. I will be trying more powder next week. Found that 8.0 grains was best at 1063 ft/secs, but neck tension issues short stopped the test, more neck tension and better consistency. Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! DRSS, double owner-shooter since 1983, O/U .30-06 Browning Continental set.
