160 gr Nosler Partition should cover you for just about anything you care to pull the trigger on with a 7mm Rem Mag.

Cobra got it.

Go with a 160 Partition.

150 will work like a charm, I've been using them for years in my 7RM.

If you are Strictly going to be shooting short range then a 175 would probably be much better for penetration but, If a longer shot happens to arise, the 150s are nice.

Good Luck

I've never needed more than 1 shot per deer with 150 gr bullets in my 7 mag. they will work with great efficency.

I alway's used 139gr and never lost a deer with my 7 mag. About anything that won't blowup when it hit's meat will work for whitetail's.

You can't pick a bad bullet for deer unless you really dip down to varmint bullets. The 150gr. should work just fine.

I used 140gr. Sierra gamekings in my 7mag with great results. I used RL19, CCI std primers( have switched to WLRM), in Rem cases. This load worked way better than what the nay sayers would let you believe.

I bought some 160gr. Barnes XLCs in bulk from midway for cheap and have been using them because I was going to use the 7mag when I went on a combo deer/elk hunt. The XLC shoots very good in my rifle, and is heavy enough and sturdy enough to hold up to any shot at any distance even on elk. I tried RL22, Retumbo, and IMR7828 with the IMR7828 getting the nod.

These are two of my good loads. I have been messing with a 162gr. Hornady SST but havn't found what it likes yet.

If you are using factory, I like Winchester and Federal ammo the best. The plain Winchester superX in 175gr. did great in expansion/retention for a standard bullet. I wouldn't worry a bit if I needed to use them for elk. Nate

You certainly don't need a 160gr or 175gr bullet for any deer.I use 140gr bullets out of my 7mmstws and they do a great job on our large bodied canadian deer.A bullet such as the 140gr accubond or 139gr interbond would be just about perfect.

For me, the only reason to use the 7mags is to push heavier bullets. I think the various 175gr (sorry, no 180s) are a bit hard for most deer hunting. The 150gr bullets are fine but I have settled on 160gr partition as a deer/elk bullet. They penetrate very well & the diff. in drop vs a 140-15gr bullet is very little. If I am only hunting deer size game, just drop to a std. cup/core bullet like the 160gr Speer or Hornady. Makes life so much simpler.

For years, all I ever used for whitetails were plain old 150 gr. Remington CoreLokt's out of my 30-06. And the deer were just as dead as anything shot with a premium bullet. Now I use Hornady SP's out of my .257 Roberts and the deer are still dead. Partition's and such just don't seem necessary for whitetails. Confused

If you want a good, lets say great allaround bullet for the 7Mag, use the 139, or 154 Interbond, both will work fine, from Elk to deer without much meat damage that has been associated with NBTs and SSTs, as some have stated, you didn't hear it from me, though. I've had great results with NBTs. Jay

I use the 140gr Partition in my 7MAG for Whitetails. I push it at a moderate 3150fps. The 160's are great, too. I just prefer the lighter recoil of the 140.

150 gr.s should work fine...assuming they shoot well enough in your gun at the ranges you intend to hunt. That's for you to determine with your gun. 139's and 150's didn't shoot as well in my 7mm Mag as 160's and 175's shot better still, especially over 200 yards. Are 175's over kill for the whitetail I hunt? Sure, but I'm hunting over open soy bean fields so I'm willing to pay in recoil for the better groups at long range.

The 150 gr bullet is very good for deer. The heavier bullets will not be as effective except in some unusual circumstance.

The Remington 150 gr Corelokt is quite a popular load in the 7mm RM and from what I have seen it's deserved.

140 gr in a 7x57 or a 7mm-08 kills just as dead with a lot less powder, noise and recoil as far out as most of us can shoot well. Under 200 yds, the 7mm TCU with a 115 gr Speer or 120 gr Sierra are sudden death too. As they say...loose the belt and find true peace!

The 308 with a 150 is all you ever needed for a deer but you now have a new toy to play with. If you go with the 150 in the 7 mag you are picking up another 300 fps delivering a little more energy on both ends. Yeah, the 150 is plenty and using a 150 Barnes Triple Shock plenty for just about anything in this country.
If you only knew how many thousands of deer have been killed with a 130 gr in a 270 you would have another view for bullet weight.
Have fun with the new toy. Load some TSX's in the 308 and you will never have a deer get away.
