Anyone have a personal experience with brown precision rifles. Are they really worth the cost?

I got to shoot one a couple of years ago, absolutely nothing wrong with them. I believe he makes his own actions now so it is probably a little different. The composite stock model used to be under $3,000. To be honest that's not a lot of money in that market, there are gunsmiths getting $5K and up for composite stocked rifles. There are a lot of cheaper ways to get something that shoots decent, HCR builds Rem. 700 based sporters for under $2000 as an example. But percentage wise I'm guessing the resale value is better on the bigger name makers if you might sell it one day. My opinion is Brown doesn't make any bad products, you're paying for hardware, plus something for the long hours spent learning the right way to do it. I had one in 450 Ackley years ago. It was put together nicely. First time I tried to load it it wouldnt chamber or feed a round. I was very disappointed. They did fix it, but it should of never left the shop unable to feed. My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Browning Guy: I think Molar is referring to "Brown Precision" not "Ed Brown". Brown Precision does not make their own action. They use Remington, Winchester, etc. I have handled several of their rifles over the years at the Reno SCI convention. The balance, asthetics and fit and finish of the rifles I handled was very nice. If the metal machining and fitment are as nicely done as the cosmetics, then it should be a very nice rifle. I don't think they are over-priced [compared to some RemChester "custom" remanufactured rifles I have seen]. I also like Mark Brown's description of how he builds a rifle for himself. I have used many Brown stocks on small Sako actions and like their fiberglass "pounder" stock alot. Their stocks have not kept pace with McMillan in such areas as selection, molded in colors, etc., but the ergonomics of the BRown hunting stock has always been very good and they paint them nicely too. My mistake, I assumed Ed Brown and should have thought about it a little. Browningguy Houston, TX We Band of 45-70ers

Brown Precision built me a rifle some 15 years ago (or so). It was based on a Sako AV and chambered for .280 Rem Imp. Other than the caliber, which today I find unnecessarily fiddly, I have been pleased with the rifle and used it a lot over the years. BP had not tightened my scope ring screws when the rifle first arrived, but after I fixed that SNAFU, it has worked well. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... I have a LH 700 in 7MM Mag that was built by Brown Precision. It has a Winchester style safety installed. I do believe it is the most accurate rifle I own. I would recomend you consider them. Prices are a little higher than others but then again you get what you pay for. I will also add that their customer service was very good after the transaction. ****************************************************************** R.
