Today I made it to the range for the first time with my new Rem 7600 7mm-08. Boy, you guys were sure right about the trigger!! Pull weight is a little over 7Lbs, and it's definitely got some creep, but it breaks real clean. I've definitely got to get a trigger job done on it. The trigger took some getting used to with groups starting out at about 1 1/2" at 100 Yds, but the more I shot it the better the groups got. By the end of the range session I was averaging about MOA with a few great groups toward the end. Here is some pics of some of the latter groups I got. These were shot with Hornady 154Grn RN on top of H414. It's a load that shot well in my Rem 700 Mtn LSS so I thought I'd give it a go in the 7600. The dark lines are 1/2" and the lighter ones are 1/4" I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am that this gun turned out to be a shooter. I heard all kinds of claims about the 7600's accuracy or lack thereof...everything from a 2+" to sub MOA. After todays range session, I have no doubt that with a good trigger job and some load development this rifle will be a consistent sub MOA performer! I gota tell ya....I'm definitely a happy camper!!!  firstshot -------------------------------------- Make your first shot count!

Nice groups. Looks like a keeper. I also have had great luck with 7600s. They tend to be pretty accurate.

Last year I bought a 7600 in 35 Whelen. I found that it copper fouls VERY quickly, compared to other guns I own. Every 10 or so shots, I have to really clean it in order to keep the groups small. Be careful that if the groups start opening up that isn't the problem. It shoots plain old factory Remington ammo (250 grain PSP's) to sub MOA but I also had to have Timney Gunsmith work the trigger to do it. Otherwise, it seemed I had to start squeezing on Monday for it to finally fire on Tuesday.

LOL...aint it the truth!! Mind has a lot of creep. I'd definitely got to get a trigger job. I'll keep an eye out for the copper fouling as well. Thanks firstshot --------------------------- Make your first shot count!

Glad to hear your new rifle is a shooter. I had a 760 carbine in .308,(very rare I did,nt know it at the time) it was a prety decent rifle. But even with a small base die I had a hard time getting it to feed handloads. You might consider keeping some fresh factory brass on hand for hunting season if you have similar trouble. Daks get your self some of c-david tubs fire lapping bullets, cant remember the name, but it sounds like your barrel is a little rough. ...tj3006 freedom1st

TJ I used a regular full length sizing die to put the 154RN handloads together and they cycled through smoothe as silk. I cycled 4 rounds at a time through several times (without actually firing the rifle) and never had a single problem with it ejecting or loading. I'll definitely keep an eye on it though. Thanks for the tip. firstshot -------------------------- Make your first shot count!

POP Thanks for the link. The trigger on my 7600 in addition to being heavy (about 6 1/2Lbs) has a LOT of creep in it. I've already talked to my gunsmith, who has done several trigger jobs for me previously, and he is going to do one on the 7600 after the first of the year. firstshot ---------------------------- Make your first shot count!

Firstshot, Here is a email add. to a guy that specializes in Rem triggers like yours. He was advertising a couple of months ago to do these triggers jobs for $30. davessportshop@tds.net There is also a couple of ads on Ebay of gunsmiths advertising this work on Rem triggers. Some of them say they can get you to a 2.5-3lb pull. All you have to do is send the trigger assembly alone. I'm thinking of sending my 11-87 slug gun trigger to him. The comments I've read about his services on other sites have been good. Good Luck Reloader

Reloader Thanks for the link and the info; however, I think I'm going to stick with my local guy. He's a little more expensive...but a known quality. Thanks firstshot -------------------------------- Make your first shot count!

I understand Firstshot. On another note, Dave emailed me yesterday evening and gave me alittle more info on his trigger jobs for the Remington assembly. He said he's still doing the $30 job. He said on the $30 work over he can bring the pull down to around 2-1/4 and take out about half of the factory creep. The polished surfaces give a much smoother pull as well. He also said he does a deluxe trigger job on the 870,1100,11-87,760,742,7400,7600 assemblies where he machines the parts and removes nearly all of the creep for a very smooth trigger pull that breaks very clean. I was sort of worried about the danger involved after working on these trigger assemblies and he assured me that his work is gauranteed and very safe just as the factory set-up. I checked on some other forums and it seems he gets good reports from guys he's done work for and he's been a smith for a long time. If any of you fellas are looking to get your remington triggers worked on, you may want to send Dave a message. davessportshop@tds.net I'm sending my 11-87 slug gun trigger to him soon. Heck, I may even pull some of my 870 assemblies and send them as well. Good Luck Reloader
