What is your favorate load with a 180 grain bullet? Maybe looking at the H1000, IMR 4350,4831. Going to reload for the first time.

I use:

Win. case
Fed. 215 primer
Speer 180 gr. Grand Slam
72.0 gr. of IMR-4350

I shoot this load out of a Model 70, a Mark I 77 and a Mark II 77. It is good on both accuracy and pressure in all 3 guns and kills stuff like a freight train hit 'em.

FOR YOUR SAFETY, I'd say starting at 68.0 gr. and working up would be wise.

My best load is: Win brass, Fed. 215 primer, Northfork 180 bullet and 72.0 gr. H4350. I like the Hodgdon extreme powders because of their resistance to temperature changes.

My best load so far is: Win brass, Fed 215 primer, 180gr Nosler ballistic tip w/ 75.5gr RL22 seated .005" off the lands. I'm going to try the Nosler Accubonds with the same combination as they're supposed to be as good or better than the ballistic tips.

My favorite load is 180 Nosler partition, Win brass, Fed 215M primers, and 75.5 Gr of RL-22. I have had some issues with lot-to-lot uniformity of RL-22 and hear it's very temp sensitive, so have started playing with Ramshot Magnum. So far, I have only tried Magnum with 200 Noslers, but have had extremely good results and will try it with 180s in the future.

Anywhere from 72 to 74 grains of RL22 and the 180 gr. Nosler Partition Golds ie. the NP's with the black (moly?) coating. These may be sold under the Combined Technology label.

I've loaded the same amount of RE22 with 180 Hornadys, but with WLR primers, Win. brass for a friends Sako, 3 shots under an inch @100yds. Jay

The 2 300s I load for like the 180 grain balistic tip over 74.0 grains of RL-22. One rifle I load them for is a BAR, and the owner swears by the terminal performance of the Balistic tip. 6 ELK so far none went more then 10 feet. Still I would prefer the accubond.
The other rifle is that of the 1st guys brother, and is a 77MK2. Has not shot any game yet, but I watched him put 3 rounds into the same hole at 50 yards. 50 yards is awfully close
But this group was well under half an inch so I am confident it would be MOA or better ... tj3

So far the best thing that I have found my rifle to shoot is:
180 Nosler BT
72.0 H4831sc
CCI 250
WW super brass
average group is .3 to .35 consistently.
It is near max in my rifle, all the usual applies start low work up. Good Luck

Thanks a ton for all the info. I have a bar and hunt in the wind and cold. Should I stay away from the RL22? I think We are going to reload on friday and go shooting on sunday. Can't wait. Thank again for all the help so far. By the way, If I wanted to by my own reloading equiptment, what brand should I buy? I am only 28, so I would Like it to last a long time. I reload 12 gage with a mec progressive reloader so I like good equiptment.

Post that question in the reloading forum and you'll get lots of good advice.

I have a Lee Cast Iron press, great value and excellent press. I use RCBS dies, Lee Factory Crimp dies, a Hornady beam scale, and a Lee ZIP case trimmer. I also use a Lee hand primer. Works for me, loads are accurate, and it didn't break the bank.

Make sure you get Noslers reloading book, and Speer's is good to.

You might not have any problems with RE22 in a BAR, but, you may want to try H4350, 70grs. being about the max. H4350 maybe the ideal burn rate for an auto and should give you very good accuracy, too. I'd probably start with 66grs. and work up to about 70. Might want to check with the bullet manufacturer as to the max they get with their particular bullet and H4350. Speer may get 72grs., Hornady might be 71, Hodgdon manual gets 67grs. with a Speer bullet, so checking would be a good idea. Let us know how everything turns out. You can also ask the bullet and powder guys if RE22 would work fine in an auto. Alliant's # is 1-800-276-9337. They make RE22 powder, if you didn't know already. Jay

I would get your selfa kit from RCBS. One that uses the rock chucker press. You would have every thing you need to start , and could up grade things as time goes by. Its a great hobby, I like the fact that even when I get skunked my ammo bags game every year, and that usualy gets me some vennison or Elk steak !!! tj3006
