On Labor Day I finally got around to improving the "huntability" of my Stainless .300 Winchester Magnum.

I didn't realize how it stuck out like a sore thumb until a buddy of mine and I were calling coyotes. He has the same rifle in a different chambering. We set up about 75 yards apart and started calling. I took a look towards his spot and boy did that stainless rifle look funny!

I hope it shoots better!

I don't know about shooting but it sure as hell looks great, love that paint job and I'm not usually a painted plastic fan. very cool. biggest concern now is loosing it when you turn around. Big Grin

Nice job.

What is the plastic / rubber cover on the scope ?

Is that something home made to stop it from moving ?

No, it's actually the plastic elevation knob cover for the aftermarket Stoney Point target knob. The scope is a VX-II Leupold that had coin slots. The Stoney Point deal works great for finger adjustablity.

I didn't paint the scope when I did the barrel/action. I just taped it off and sprayed the metal.

I did have a screw up. I'm very impatient. I used the Aluma-hyde paint which is epoxy based and it takes a long time to cure. I was so excited to get it back together, I put the barrel in the vise to install the stock. The paint wasn't dry enough on the barrel and the vise (me) ruined it where it was clamped. I touched it up enough that you can't tell in the pic.

I advise letting it dry for 3 days before even thinking about handling it.

Yes, just used the flat black on the barrel.

How do you like your thumbhole stock?

The stock was more than I expected! It is a Boyds second, I picked up for 65.00. It is lighter and better balanced than the factory plastic and completely free floats the barrel. I haven't had the oppurtunity to hunt with it but on the range it handles very well. The benefit of the thumbhole is it really allows you to improve your trigger control, you squezze the pistiol grip. And it definefily dresses up the rifle, in about 1 minute of work.

I painted my .243 predator gun also put your paint job is much better.

Thanks.

It turned out so good I'm going to do all of my hunting rifles. Not only does it look great, but it really serves the purpose of making your rifle not stand out like a beacon.

It was easy to do and a good learning experience for the next ones to come. Pretty cool to put your personal touch on your rifle.
