Gentlemen:

Has anyone tried 125 gr .308 loads for deer sized game? I purchased a box of CorBons in the aforementioned size and am curious if anyone else has tried them. The bullets are JHP @ 3150 fps.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob.

l don't use the .308...but....A good pal' uses one as part of his job to cull roughly 200 Roe deer a year for the Forestry Commision. l think his rounds are 123grn Sako SP, and he says they shoot like a .100grn .243 out to 300yrds and have about the same effect on impact.

As you chaps say...Yotes,Goats and anything reasonable should be ok...

Regards.

Dave.

My gunsmith uses them on crop permits. Drops the deer quickly but you'll lose some shoulder meat. He hasn't lost a deer while shooting this bullet yet.

I have used the Sierra 125 with a stiff dose of W-748. Works really well. They start running out of gas at around 350 yds. Wind also has more influence on accuracy.

I would suggest to use whatever bullet is most accurate in your rifle.

Accuracy kills. High velocity numbers influence friend and forums.

my sister in law and her two daughters shoot a Savage 99 in 300 Savage with 125 Nosler Ballistic Tips. Every year since 1990 three deer and two or three elk and a couple of antelope get killed with this load/rifle. No recoil to speak of, and they lung them to death. Hard to run when you are suffocating in your own blood.

Use somewhere between 51.0 and 51.5 gr of WW 748 in Winchester brass. Use a Federal 210 primer. Velocity sould run around 3100 fps or a little better. I have yet to see a 308 that wouldn't shoot that load. I have tried it with the Sierra/Nosler/Speer 125 gr. bullets they all like it.

I have shot 5 deer with the Nosler 125 gr. Ballistic Tip. Three of them dropped in their tracks, the other two went about 15 yards and went down. The shots were from a close of 47 paces to a lasered 239 yards. Supriseingly all bullets exited. Even the close shot. All were double lung shots. I don't think I would try to drive any of the 125 gr. bullets through both shoulders of a big whitetail.

Having said that I prefer 150/165 gr class of bullets.

I had a buddy who bought an '06 and found out he was recoil sensitive. I was using the .30 cal 125 Sierra for rapid fire in conventioal highpower and thought the bullet would work for deer with low recoil. I called Sierra and they said to keep the valocity below 2700fps and it would work fine. He's still shooting them, it's a bang-flop load with lung hits.

Been using that bullet weight for years in '06, .308win, and .30-30win to reduce recoil for youngsters and recoil sensitive shooters. The .30-30s have been T/C Contender Carbines. As others have said...Bang...Flop!
