Reciving here after x-mas a box of 180grain .277cal for my .270wea I had here today to actually do a little test to see how good(or bad) these heavy-for-caliber bullets did.

My rifle is a custom pre-64 winnie with a 27" Liljabarrel.
Norma brass
Fed 215primer
Woodleigh 180grain PPs
Col: 85mm

60 grain Norma MRP did 798 m/sec
61 grain ------------- 810------
62---------------------819------
63---------------------826------
64---------------------835------
65---------------------835------
66---------------------844------
66,5-------------------858------
67---------------------862------
67,5-------------------869------
No more loads..:LOL
I did not feel any hard extraction at all and no superflattning primers due to excessive pressures. These velocities were taken @ aprox 8 feet. I also did a little accuracy test at only 60 meters( aprox 66yards). shot all shots perfect within a 1" group(poorly field rest) sitting dead-on where my 150grain Nosler Par prints.
I feel I have atleast another 30+ m/sec to go before reaching this rifles fully potential making the .270wea a very versatile caliber( the best of all the wea calibers,..I believe)

Today a new load:

68Grain Norma MRP
COL: 83mm
Velocity: 915 M/sec(+3000 ft/sec).

The longer freebore + ½grain did the trick. This makes the .270Weatherby imho. a much finer caliber than many like the 7mmRem Mag, 7mm Wea mag + 300 Win/H&H mag.

A 180 grain woodleigh from a .270 at 3000 FPS is some mighty good medicine and should be good for a very long ways.....

You have just given me and probably a lot of others a good reason to finally own a .270 Weatherby....

I shoot 4 270 WSM's and have been testing 160 grain Nosler Partitions recently and have been very pleased with the speeds. I am real curious as to the 180 grain .277 bullet you mention. What is it and where do you get it. I am developing an Elk load and my WSM's shoot the 160 grain Partitions from 2975 up to 3175 fps. I consider this an excellent Elk load and your bullet is quite interesting. Any information would be appreciated. Good shooting

While you're at Midway make sure to read the reviews on this bullet....that ought to confuse you all the more...

This 180grain PP from Woodleigh is taylor made for the .270WEA.
The 180 grain turns the .270WEA into it´s class of it´s own. Made the .300 WimpyMag vacant..presumably standing in the monday morning jobline..Take a number!!. Next please!.What´s your story!. Oh well..sit down and wait overthere!.Please fill out this retirement form.

This seems to be good information....the .270 Weatherby might spin the bullet 400 RPM faster than from a similar twist .270 Winchester and just might make a big difference in stabilization.

This bullet is what is needed to breath new life into the old .270 Weatherby.....

BC of the 180grain PP is .513. At 200 meters it does what a .308win do at the muzzle with same bulletweight with this load I developed.

The 270Wby is a rock star with any bullet weight. It is the perfect blend of trajectory, energy and shootability. It is easy to load for, high pressure comes on less abruptly than the WSM, and with a little common sense the brass from Norma holds up very well. As long as we are not shooting armored vehicles I would take the 270Wby with a sturdy 150 grain bullet against any 30 cal. 180grain to 500 yards.(past that I can only hit armored vehicles with any consistancy)
