Went to a gun show today !
The 1st heartbreak was a rifle I could have bought. The guy has a sign on his bench 20% off on all rifles. I see a rareity i would love to own with a price tag of 695.00, with the 20%off
556.00. Guys its an FN Deluxe in .257 roberts,
I walk away for a minite to think what I need to do to come up with the cash on the spot, and not to seem to excited. I walk around abit and go pick it up. Right away i start noticing problems. Some one cut the stock off and then spilced in a spacer. Now its a barreld action, 556.00is still an OK deal, I would have it stocked by a real pro, and have a great deer rifle. look it over some more and OH NO ! someone has patched a coupe holes in the reciever for a peep site and its ugly as hell.
I love the roberts and i love FNs never have I seen an FN so chamberd before but this one just ain't good enough.
So I continue walking around the show and I see another FN looking bolt shroud kind of hiding on a rack on a table. I pull it out and its a FN browning in 300 win mag. Its a rather plain jane specimen but it would be as good an all purpose big game rifle for an american hunter as any on earth. This one going for 800.00. Its in great shape and all it would need is a hunk of good glass, and its ready to go. Can't raise 800.00 on the spot but I could go home and get some trade bait. Hell my 30/30 and 500 should do it !. So I start for the truck
when i get outside its snowing, get in head for home 10 miles away. get in a traffic jam, takes a hour to get home grab the old 94 wipe it down kiss it goodby, get back in the truck
traffic is still so jaked up by the time I get back to the show its closing early for what they are calling a blizzard. They won't let me in. I didnt even put chains on my 2 wheel drive pick up, I misseed out. I could cry, I,ll go shoot the 30/30 soon and mabye I will be glad I still have it, but damn an FN Browning 300 win.
Slipped through my fingers !...tj3006

Look at it this way. They made more than one FN & you still have the $500.00 for the next show. thumb

I would have tried to talk him down to 750.00
An FN Browning in 300 win seems to me a fairly good price. I saw a couple at the last show they were safari FN Browning safari versions and a 7 mag was 900 and a beautifull .264 win mag was 1100.00...tj3006
