I bought the Higgins Model 50 that one of the fellas found in a gun shop. Really bought it for the action. Is a commercial FN action with left side safety and all. Had obviously been refurbished (reblued) but was nicely done. Shipped in a Hogue stock.

Trigger was original. Crisp with no creep ... but about 4 pounds.

I took the stock off for another rifle and substituted a cheap Fajen's stock. Was out of decent scope so I plopped on a fair 3-9x40 Tasco, bore sighted it, and threw together some 130 Hornady's with 54 grains of IMR 4831.

Is pretty outside today so I shot it on the 100 yd range off the side patio. Moved the impact point to a reasonable place and shot the last three rounds. Saw the first and second impact point but could not see the third. Close look showed a three shot ragged hole.

Couldn't ask for more! Simply amazing. Cheap rifle, cheap bullets ... and a tack driver. I think one of the Grandkids will have a very nice Christmas present!

(Now I need another action for a .376 Steyr tube I have!)

I have another Higgens in .30-06 that is like that.....this one has a swing safety (M-70 style)

I hate to take a good shooting gun apart as you said.....but I have a fine M-70 featherweight in .30-06 and another one coming up on a VZ-24 action.

If you want it PM me and we can work a deal maybe

Great actions....but shoot so well they are hard to take apart.

Vapodog,

Thanks for the interest, but youngest son is getting married in July and the .270 would be just about right for her and her future kids. Think I'll make sure there is something in addition to the boomers for them to start with Wink

Yep, I've been there and done that. I bought 2 old FN's for their actions. But then I shot'em and they shot so well I left'em just like they were.
