It has disappeared and what you can find if any is 100 plus a box. Let me guess supply issues and inflation. Or is it a has been? Got a nice right in that caliber was thinking of using it prefer not to have to reload as only option

Do yourself a favor and forget about factory fluffy stuff. Reloading is liberating. That is, if you can find primers. sofa

regular 280 works too.
besides it's a Remington thing, hype it up for 2 years and drop it like a hotcake in 6 months.
shrug.

Nosler and Midway had the Trophy Grade 160gr NP load in stock up to about 2 months ago.

**edit**
Midway still has it in stock at only $90 per box, it's like it's free.

Au contraire!

Sell your 280AI also, and just go with a 280 Rem. A wonderful round!

It will shoot up to 175 gr. (Factory ammo), compared to 150 gr. (Factory ammo) for the 270.

As Lamar said, just run 280 rem through it. That is one of the benefits of an AI chamber. Ammo will be reasonable again. Just a supply and demand issue. How many rounds do you go through a year anyway? Most folks don't even burn through a box...

I use and reload for the 280AI.

Is it the only hunting cartridge I use? Not by a long shot but it's a dandy and no one in their right mind can question that.

Do I need the added benefit of the 280 AI over the 270 and 280? Well, yes, maybe, maybe not but it's nice to get what I can get out of it.

I've shot deer, antelope and mountain sheep with each of those and none are really wanting. All three work fine!

Sell your 280 AI if you want but most guys don't run away when thing get tough!

REgular 280 is hard to come by, and if you do its higher n a cats back..Id rebarrel to a 270. or sell your 280 and buy a Mod 70 or Ruger..

In fact I just sold my 280 Newton and got a 308 WCF pre 64 Winchester fwt with the most beautiful factory stock that ever came out of Winchester factory..dark red matrix with contrasting black flowing grain, absolutely awesome..

280 AI is a great round, but it is best suited for someone who reloads. I have a standard 280 and a 270, all other things being equal I prefer the 280.
I think you should just try to trade back to something more suitable for your needs. That chambering is still a pretty hot ticket, even if factory ammo is NA. Moving it should be easy.

Saw that prefer the accubonds but I’ll try some and also decide about reloading. This might be one that’s necessary. It’s a time vs money thing with me. When you could get Nosler accubonds for less than $3 a round the shoot about 1/2” out of my gun that was a good deal. Got some left but was wondering if the round was dying off already in factory loading

The 280 Remington is a lovely round. Based on ammo availability unless you're a handloader, I'd choose a 270 or a 7mm Rem Mag. Any Walmart carry them.

Chuck

As long as we're on personal problems, I have many problems and loading for and using a 280 AI doesn't even rank in the top 20! LOL

Yes, it's far from the only cartridge I use but it's a good one.

Same thing that happens to all wilcatters that try to improve the parent case, they end up in the middle age bracket with enough intelligence to stick with the 30-06, a round that simply cannot be improved all things considered... horse
