Well, I had to see if this gun would shoot. Found the only box of Remington 140grn Cor-Loc Bullets (or any factory shells for that matter) on the west side of Houston. Put on a Weaver one piece base and mounted an old Tasco World Class 3X9 to burn some powder. The trigger pull on this gun is really excessive. I would not be exaggerating to say it could go 10#'s of pull. So with the Tasco and heavy trigger pull I was not expecting much and therefore was not disappointed. After four rounds at fifty yards (would have only been two except that I had the front ring not in the groove and had to re bore sight) I put 8 more on paper at 100 yards. It really needs a better recoil pad!! I never touched the scope at 100 hundred and it just about walked the bullets around the outside of the 3" circle. Did have one hit bullseye, but must of been a fluke. I noticed a pressure point at the tip of the forearm and with this much powder, even with the varmint barrel it gets hot after one shot. I will pull the stock and enlarge the barrel chamber and probably set a couple of rods in the forearm to stiffen. I will also skim bed the action and when I put the new butt pad on may add some weight to the back. It is really front heavy with the 26" varmint barrel. I have a Millet 6X25 AO Milldot Target coming and set of dies, so By the time they get here and I start working up a load the stock will be adjusted. Do you think this will be able to reach out and touch something? Founding member of the 7MM STW club Member of the Texas Cull Hunters Association

There's no question it will reach out there... I would certainly work on that trigger... My '06 Ruger was that way (probably an 8 or 10 lb pull)... My smith cleaned it up and got it to about 2 1/2 lbs... I also had him put a real recoil pad on it... That gun has no problems going sub MOA at 100... I need to do some 200 yard work to determine if the load is accurate at various ranges as well.... Ken.... If you can't get sub moa with that rifle, it aint the cartridge. Tell me a little more about your rifle . What componants did you use to build it ? My 7mm STW is a more or less stock model 70 classic and it shoots extreemly well with a 160 grain nosler acubond and H-1000 RL-25 and IMR 7828...tj3006 freedom1st

TJ This is a Savage 112FVSS with factory stock and trigger. 26" Heavy varmint barrel. I know it will shoot better. I worked on the trigger last night. Don't have a trigger scale but it is 1000% better than what came from the factory. The scope was a POS Tasco that was on the top shelf of my closet that I pulled off an old 270 years ago. I pulled it then, because I could not get it to stay zeroed in. I put it on the gun because I wanted to go shoot it. A new scope should arrive this week, Millet 6X25X56mm Varmint milldot and I will give everyone a review after I mount it. I also relieved a pressure point at the tip of the stock when I worked the trigger over. New stock is next purchase. There is nothing to these Savages stocks and I want something with some substance. I am not judging this gun by the first range trip, just because of the scope. With a new scope I will be more critical.
