Has anyone tried this combo ? Seems ideal, but I cannot find any data. "We have met the enemy, and they are us." - Pogo

Hey Jimmy Mac, I use a good bit of IMR-4064 in my 350RemMag because I happen to have a bunch of it on hand. When I use it up, I'll go to Varget(and it's shorter grains). If you start at the bottom loads of the IMR-4064 for the Varget and work up to what we all consider normal Pressure Indicators, you will do fine. Since rifles vary so much from each other, I just don't recommend specific Loads. That doesn't mean others won't, but always work up from below. Best of luck to you.

I've found Varget to be a wonderful 350RM powder and I've fired hundreds of rounds developing loads with it. My general hunting load propels 225 grain Nosler Partitions 2,660fps out of my 673, is set to a slightly long OAL of 2.820" and shoots MOA. I tried using Nosler's W748 recipe for the 225 gr. Partition but kept getting pressure signs after ~2,590fps. I compared Varget and W748 temperature insensitivity found that Varget lived up to it's reputation and held velocity from 60F to 95F while while with W748 it climbed. Varget also gave low standard deviations of ~11fps and since I don't use pressure equipment that gave me a measure of confidence that I could go to near Max. velocities without excessive pressure excursions. For my 673 I have tried RL-15 ,W748 AA2520, AA2460, Varget and even Benchmark but Varget has proven the best for 200gr- 225gr bullets. ALL THE USUAL CAUTIONS AND DISCLAIMERS APPLY FOR WHAT FOLLOWS: For 200gr Jacketed bullets such as the Hornady SP you can start at 56 grains. I have worked up to a velocity of 2,820fps with out pressure signs in my rifle and with excellent accuracy and low STDs. For 225gr Nosler Partitions you can start at 54 grains. Like I said I use a OAL of 2.820" and get 2,660fps. Reducing the OAL IMO _DOSE_ make a difference in pressure and velocity and like they say your mileage may vary. To achieve these velocities I use compressed loads with as much as 5% compression, so if you have a phobia against compression you'll have to settle for less velocity.

I know in the 35 whelen Varget and RL 15 are almost interchangable for load data. I'd expect the 350 rem mag to be similar. Don't know if there is much 350 rem mag data for RL-15 though. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.
