I can assure 9.3x62 will work when loaded with 286 gr Partitions @ 2400 fps at a little over 150 yards. I'd say for best results keep your range under 250 yards or so.

I don't know why not. Most locals use the 06 with 180-220 grain bullets - this is their BIG gun. Most everything else is taken with a mini 14 in 223 or M94 30-30.

I have Barnes TSX in 9.3 (250 grs) . . . they may not make them any longer (I switched to A-frames)

I used a double rifle in 9.3x74 last year for cape buff in Zimbabwe. I would not hesitate to use it for big bears or anything else on the face of this earth for that matter. I used 320 Woodleighs and I think they step up the performance of the 9.3 quite a bit from the 286g. Out to 250 yards or so they would work outstanding.

Don - There are lots of bullets out there for the 9.3, check Midway and Graf and Sons.

I have Barnes TSX in 286gr and 250gr as well as Barnes solids in the same weights. Nosler makes a 286gr in the Partition, Norma makes several including the 232gr Oryx. Privi makes a 285gr soft point that's excellent for practice.

I used a 9.3 X 62, CZ 550FS in Moz last September to take Hippo and Sable using the 286gr Barnes TSX, also carried some Barnes solids. Took my Leopard with 286gr Nosler Partitions. These three bullets all shot less than 1/2 inch difference in point of impact.

I see no problem using one for Grizz.

That should make one bad ass load. I think they could make it lighter or also make lighter version.
The X bullets don't need to be as heavy as conventinal soft points.

I have used a 9,3x74R for everysized game on the Planet, including giraffe cape buff and elephant.

ANYTHING I could do with a 375 H&H [and I like the 375 H&H] I could do with a 9,3x62, and HAVE done with a 9,3x74 R...

Years ago, they thought the 35 Whelen was just about perfect for anything in NA. Add ten-percent in ME and you have the 9,3x62.

I have the CZ FS. Dandy little lightweight carbine.

I would have to say that I agree that the 35 Whelen [or the 350 Rem Mag] is plenty enough for anything in NA...

At least I would have no problem hunting with it.

The 9,3's and the 375 H&H is just icing on the cake.

The 9.3x62 with 286gr Partitions makes about as good of grizzly/brown bear rifle as one could ask for.

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

Here is a complete list of the game animals that a 9,3x62 or9,3x74R will not kill cleanly with one shot.

The 9,3x62 is the most impressive caliber I have ever owned. Use NOP/ Barnes you are ready for everything. I have shot Brown Baer/Kamchatka with 375 H&H but would not hesitate to shoot nwith 9,3. In fact I am now having my 3rd custom 9,3 built.

Just take twice as much ammo as you think you will need and sleep well.
The ammo will not go bad and you will use it later.
That 9.3 has been a proven killer for what, 105 years.

9.3 is not good enough for brown bears...don't you know that brown bears can tell the difference between .009 of bullet diameter, 14 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fpS

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I´ve used the 9.3x62 quite a bit -not on bear though. I dropped at eland bull with one shot at 60m, this using standard PMP ammo. I´d use it on bear, lion or ele anyday.

Although large and ornory, the big bears are thin skinned game.9.3x62, 35 Whelen, .338-06, etc, etc. It's all good and they will get the job done.

What are opinions on the use of the 9.3x62 on Alaskan coastal grizzlies by an out of state hunter (286 grain premium bullet at about 2400 fps). Has anyone used this cartridge on these animals? Any input on either question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1.I can't imagine it not doing the job as long as the nut pulling the trigger does his.

2. No experience with, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

3. I have a couple 9.3x64 Breneke's that I would take if it were me. Or one of my 338-06's as a second choice. But I don't own a x62, or it would be right in the mix also.
