Has anyone tried necking up the 325 WSM to 338 and chambered a rifle for it? Results? My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I don't remeber the exact reason, the folks at winchester originally wanted to do a .338 WSM, but had trouble loading the 338 bullet. My guess is they didn't have enough neck to seat the bullet. John

The 250 gr 338 bullets were too long and the 338 wsm was 100 fps slower than the 338 win mag.The 325 wont last long without winchester. If Reminton goes broke there will be a ton of dead calibers. They are already dumping alot of there Rem short mag rifles. The wsm cartridges might be the worse thing to happen to the firearms industry in a long time in the end.I would just get a good 338 win mag and not fool with the wsms.My factory Ruger 77 Mark II 338 stainless will shoot 3/4" groups at 200 yards with factory ammo.It will also push the 250 gr bullets at 2800fps.The 338 wsm would have handled up to 225 gr bullets about 2700 fps or so.

The reason that the 338 WSM never made it to full production is that velocities at normal pressures weren't much better than 338-06's and weren't equal to the 338 Win Mag. RCBS made a few sets of std dies for them thinking that they would soon be out with them. The 8mm gave them enough velocity and bullet weight to more closely approach if not equal the 338 Win Mag. Incidentally if you are running over 2800fps with 250gr Bullets in a 338 Win Mag you are running higher than normal pressures. Not one of the major reloading manuals, Hornady, Speer, Nosler, Swift, Lapua etc. list a single load where they were able to acheive over 2800fps. Most of the loads are under 2700fps. It may seem safe in your rifle but it's above standard pressures...............DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

My hunting buddy and I both have .338WSMs. Our gunsmith talked us into them since we were also having the rifles built up for 6.5WSMs. This way we had simple switch-barreled rifles Problems from feeding initially occurred, but have been sorted out. As for the original RCBS dies in ".338 WSM," we have a set of them. The sizing die is too short. Its like a Rem SAUM length. We have to set the die quite a bit off the shellholder to use it. Called RCBS about this. They said return the dies for any standard caliber rifle die set. Said I wanted what is now known as the .338/.300WSM. They said NO. Not even if I paid the difference between std dies and wildcats. Bought Redding dies for both wildcats and am very happy. .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship
