Seems my brother in law fell into a cess pool and while he couldn't find the diamond he did snatch a pair of Rem 700's; a.35 Whelan and a .22/250 in a sporter which had full Camo job. So we adjusted the untouched rifles triggers, and looked in the loading closet only to find about 800 Bullets in the .35 caliber, from the 180 Speers to the 250 Win Silvertips and Hornady RN's. Nosler Partitions as well. So I guess since he trashed my .358 years ago... now it's only right he should inherit the spoils. Damn, I should move quicker on my projects. The .22/250 and the usual load of 34 grs of IMR 4064 loaded .010 short of contact cuts holes, so there will be no load development on that one. However, (and I do appreciate your patience so far) now we get to the grit of this post. Since it is a Rem and I assume it has a slow twist: Will it stabalize a 250 grain bullet? And if so what is a good load or powder to use in your experience? I am leaning toward IMR 3031 or IMR 4064, comments appreciated. Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! Your 1/16 Whelen will shoot the 250's just "fine and grand" as they say back in Co. Cork. However, if ya got some IMR4064 already just a sitt'n on the bench, then use it, for sure. If not, get yerself some R-15. WN Fill your boots, man!

54gr IMR4064 with Sierra 225 SBT or Hornady 250 spire point work well in my .35 Dave

Dave You will have to try some 225 Gr. bullets with N140. See Sierra Edition V.

Been crusing the manuals, and think that the powder might be VV540... Will work up and chrono as time permits. Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! DRSS, double owner-shooter since 1983, O/U .30-06 Browning Continental set.

Definetly try VV 140 around 55 grains to start with the 250s. Varget also worked for me with same charge. I get right at 2600 fps with 56.5 gr of either. Great accuracy

So with a 250 gr what kind of velocity do you get out one one of these loaded with RL-15? You can't kill them setting on the couch.

My Whelen is built on an old FN action and a 23" Douglas barrel with 1-12 twist. With the 250 gr Hornady and 58 gr of RL15 muzzle velocity is +/-2600 fps. If It Doesn't Feed, It's Junk.
