I´ve only read about this and only about south africans doing it. Those guys have a thing about the 318 WR and getting other calibres to perform to the same kind of specs. Has anyone here done this and had any success? And what about stabilisation?

I used some many years ago. Because they were round nosed they were short enough to stabilize well in my 1 in 10" barrel. Accuracy was great, however velocity was so low that the bullets didn't expand well. I settled on 220 grainers or 180's. They have worked so well for me that I haven't tried the 250's since. I'd bet that with the new bullets on the market these days you can probably find a 250 that will perform better.
How low was the velocity? 250gr @ 2400fps is some kind of magical figure in african bush hunting. I´m thinking of trying this in my 300 H&H, but couldnt be arsed if I dont get any positive response here. I´m not a great experimenter, just an observer and then I only use what works.

Back in the days before bonded bullets, I got better results on game with my 303 than a borrowed 30 06. I couldnt understand it, untill I started to dig for bullets and realised that the slower 303s just held together better. I bought the 300 H&H for the desert where, one is sometimes lucky to get in a shot at 300 - 350 metres especialy towards end of season when game is spooky. I´ve been using a 35 whelen for close range bush hunting and really am happy with it and, use only irons at these ranges. I have a half arsed idea that it might be nice to do the same thing with the 300 H&H and have one rifle to do two things with two loads. One load scoped and one unscoped. I love my whelen but like the familiarity that comes with using one rifle for everything. If I can get the 300 to stabilise....well I might be in luck. Thanks for the comments boet

I was at the Melbourne gun show recently and viewed a comprhensive display of Woodly projectiles that had been recovered from Game notably were three 240grn soft points fired from a 30.06 recovered from an asiatic buffulo(big and tough when riled up)Out of all the combinations on that display i would have to say that the expansion was quite limited but penetration would be adequate.I think 180 200 grn are more suited to 3006 velocities on larger game aqnd of course shot placement is critcal.
