I have a savage mdl 10 flp .308 on the way and was just wondering if anybody could give me some advice on loads to start with. I'm new to reloading and the gun will mainly be used for target shooting under 400yds.

Thanks Willie. I hadn't thought about any bullets that light but have some I've used for 30-06 coyote loads I'll give them a try in the 308

Sam For powder I like Varget and bullets in the 150 to 175 weight range. Sierra mainly but will be trying some 155 Lapua Scenars shortly. “I am an American; free born and free bred, where I acknowledge no man as my superior, except for his own worth, or as my inferior, except for his own demerit.” Theodore Roosevelt (1858 – 1919)

Have had good success with 43.0-43.5 gr RL-15 and 168 gr HPBT Sierra Match bullets on Winchester brass in my Douglas barreled Savage. I usually shoot 165 gr Remington Core-Lokts driven by 42 gr RL-15 in LC brass for hunting light game. Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... For long range you will do much better with a heavier bullet. The heaviest I have used with 308 is 165gr. I have not tried the 165gr Nosler comp bullet in 308, but find it accurate in 30-06. I have used the following powders with 165gr bullets in 308 with success: 165BT IMR 4064 44gr 210M 2652fps 165Coreloc AA 2520 44gr 210M 2615 Both gave good performance in my 20" Custom Mauser 98. Good luck with you new rifle. Kudude

This is 3 three shot groups at 100 yds with my new savage the first time at the range useing 42.5 grs of IMR 4064 and the 168 Nosler comp, with cci br primers.I used the same load at 1000 yds with my tikka varmit and it did great.Your 10 fp should shoot about the same. If you want to try lighter bullets give the sie 135 and the hornady 130 a try, work up to IMR 4895, 45.5 with the 135's and 45 gr with the hornady 130's. If you want to go lighter the hornady 110 gr shoots very well also.So far IMR 4320 has shot the best groups in my tikka and H 335 in my savage.

42.5gr. RL22 and a 168 Hornady Match works well in my Savage 110.

168 smk over 44 grains of varget with winchester brass and federal 210 primers seems to work well in my 10fp. 5 shot groups stay around .5 moa day in and day out, winter or summer. 10 shot groups tuck into an inch. Not benchrest accurate but consistent .

46.5 Grains of Varget, 155 Grain SMK, Lapua Brass, Federal 210M Primer, .015 to .020 off lands. Please work up to this load, we are not seeing any pressure signs.

Mikes load recommendation is pretty close to this load by a Palma competitor and included in an article on 6mmBR wedsite Winchester Brass CCI BR primers Berger 155 VLD Varget 47 gr. This is the load I'm going to try when I can get some Berger's
