i know its not 270 or larger but I thought more people may have experience on the subject. On plains game will a 6.5x284 with a 129 hornady interlock potent enough for the impala, tommie, grants, bushbuck even up to hartebeest or is it just to small. it would be a third gun on the hunt. i have used a 280 before with a 140 grain and killed up to kudu and it did a fine job. any opionions?

I haven't used the 6.5 on big game but if I were going to take it to Africa, I would want a premium bullet @ the speeds you can drive a 120-130gr bullet from the 6.5x284. The smallest I have gone is the 338-06 & it works great on big or small, close & not too far. Big Grin

In the mid sixties I hunted and killed large mule deer with the 6.5 X .284. I completely throw in with Fred's advice. If you are intending to use your stated bullet make sure the twist is not so fast that the jackets will spin off. Been there done that. Eekerroger beer

or have a boxful of 180gr spitzer like a member here offers. It's what sits on my desk here in a 6,5x68Shuler case.
