I posted this in the reloading section, but I thought I would try it here as well: The .358 Norma Mag. and 9.3 x 64 Brenneke have very similar case dimension (except the 9.3 x 64 is beltless, of course), and according to QuickLoad have identical case capacities of 88.0 gr H20. According to QuickLoad, the case capacity is also almost identical (if not a tiny bit larger for the 9.3 x 64) when loaded with 250 gr .358 caliber and .366 caliber X-bullets, respectively, to the maximum O.A.L. My question is, would using .358 Norma max loads (i.e. powder charges) according to manuals be safe in the 9.3 x 64, assuming of course that I work up starting below, follow the typical procedures for working up a load, etc.? I can't think of any reason why this wouldn't work, but I just wanted to check here to make sure I'm not missing something. It's tough to find any published loads for the 9.3 x 64...

If the capacities are the same then going to a larger bore should be OK. Key thing are you sure of the capacities. Loadtech show the 358 to be several grains larger. It shows the 9.3X64 at 87. Shows the 358 over 90. I just checked my 358Norma brass and it held 90.5grs of water. My barnes manual list the 358 as 87.57. I ran loadtech with 87 grains in the 9.3 and 88 in the 358. 358 max was about a full grain below the 9.3. Raising the 358 to 90 and the 358 load was still about .6grs below the 9.3. The newest Nosler reloading manual has 9.3x64 data for both 250 and 286 bullets. No guess work involved...

9.3 x 62, Thanks for the heads up. Barnes, Hodgdon, Hornady, and Lyman don't list it, so Swift (who seems to be fairly conservative) is the only reference I have. I will have to go order myself a copy of the Nosler manual. ramrod, Thanks for the info. Where does one order Loadtech? Is it just another version of Quickload?

Loadtech is Part of Accuload. http://www.aement.com/products.htm. I was going to buy Quickload but I got a copy of Loadtech for allowing them to include a couple of my wildcats in their system. I think Quickload gives you more control. Loadtech will not allow you to override as much and you can't force it to use a specific powder. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
