They are excellent rifles. I try to find them used, at about 60% of retail. I have models 21,22,38 and 52, no model 54 yet due to the aforementioned factor.
All of mine shoot light out, adjustable triggers, excellent fit and finish. I doubt that the 54's are any different. The classic or the jackson game/varmint are my favorite for carry.

Damn. That's a fine looking collection there. What chamberings? I've been eyeing a M52 repeater in 6.5-284.

Clem,
in descending order,
Model 22 Montana Varminter, 6.5 x 284
Jackson Game Rifle, Model 52, 25-06
Model 21 Varminter, 20 Var-targ
Model 21 Varminter, 17 Mach IV
Model 38 Classic, 22 hornet
Model 21 Classic, Tac 20
Model 38 Classic,17 Hebee

gerryb.
Basically this is the "crap" I do when starting up a Cooper.............
I typically do several things. I run a couple hundred strokes with a bronze bore brush loaded with JB bore paste/kroil to clean/lap the barrel. This is my barrel break in proceedure.
Next I do a trigger adjustment if necessary (it almost never is cold enough for gloves here, and I like a triggerto break at two pounds or less on these rifles.) I mount a scope, load some rounds and go play.
I'm basically a hunter not a paper puncher so 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yds. works for me. Plus in my old age, using low magnification scopes, the rifles shoot better than I do.

Here is results from a typical range session with the 6.5 x 284. Granted this is a single shot model Montana Varminter, but the results from Model 54 in 7mm-08 (one fine chambering in my opinion) should not be to different. I do believe Cooper continues to guarantee 1/2" at 100 yds. The first two groups are at 100 yds off the bench. The third and fourth are at 200 yds. I was doing some load development and these were shot consecutively at the same session. For the time being, I have settled on 48 gr. of H 414, 130 gr. Accubonds, 2.955" OAL, Fed. 210M primers, Lapua Brass as my go to load in this gun.

I had a 21 in .204. Bar none the most accurate rifle I ever owned. I called it my mouse hunting rifle. Ridiculous accuracy. I have several 5 shot groups on the loading bench that you have to look hard to tell they are more than one shot. I was going to order a 22-250AI until Dan Cooper lost his mind and sent a big check to and said he was "mesmerized" by Obama. Damn shame too.

K20350.
Buy one used from another American citizen and don't look back,or refuse to use any product refined from Saudi crude, Austrian/German Optics, Japanese electronics/autos, anything Italian, Korean or from any of the former soviet states. Each of the aforementioned countries have killed more Americans than Dan Cooper. To do anything less might be hypocritical. Heaven knows you wouldn't countenance that!

Me and many others had issues over Dan Cooper, BUT, that changed, he was OUSTED and no longer with Cooper.

I am interested in these, and perhaps a SS/Syn priced like a Kimber Montana will be offered.......then I will surely try to obtain one.
