Has anyone been shooting one with a 145-150 grain bullet? Wife has a moose tag and thinking this might be a good combination for her.

Bowshot, welcome to AR. I like the looks of the Adirondak, and 7mm-08 or 6.5 Creedmoor would be what I'd want. Let us know how it shoots.

I would use a 150 gr TSX for large deer. Never hunted Moose but I understand that many are killed with 223s in Alaska. So a 150 gr TSX from a 7mm08 at 2700 pfs would do the job.

Varget is the best powder that I found. Re15 also works well.

bowshot,

Having shot quite few moose I'm going to recommend something else. A moose is a huge animal and yes Alaska natives kill them with 223s. They also wound them. I'd recommend a premium bullet of 160-175 grain in your wife's 7-08. You may not get that perfect broadside shot and you need that bullet weight to break those big bones if necessary.

160's partitions shoot just fine out of my 7-08. One thing to consider is bullet length. Those high BC, boat tail, mono metal designs really add to the length. In doing so, they suck up valuable case capacity.

To veer off topic just a little, what bullet would you suggest for elk in the same chambering? I'm thinking the 150 TSX would be plenty. Its for my sons rifle.

I normally reload for my Tikka 7mm-08 and for whatever reason, mine likes heavier bullets. I've tried 145 grain Speer and 150 grain NP's. After having good results using Norma Oryx in my 9.3x62, I wanted to try them in my 7mm-08. The 156 grain factory loads have worked incredibly well accuracy-wise and I have since found Oryx bullets to reload. I've not tried them on large game yet but will on a SD deer hunt.

Moose aren't especially tough, they're just big.

Personally, if I were using a Barnes in the 7-08, I'd want warp speed, not the pedestrian 2,700 of a 150.

The 7-08 with a 140 Partition or Accubond is about ideal. But, many 7-08's won't group them, whereas they'll group heavier bullets well. My last Kimber MT 7-08 was no exception. It bug-holed the 150 Ballistic Tip, so I used it on a good 7x7 bull elk. Bullet went through 32" of elk and killed it faster than any bull I've ever shot.

I'd not hesitate to use the NBT on Moose. Ditto a 150 or 160 Speer Hotcore, or Hdy 154 Interlock.

My first choice would be a Partition.

I load 140 TTSX's in my ULA 20 with a 25"Pacnor. The ULA has a long blind box mag and allows me to seat the bullet without taking up much space in the case. Powder is Varget, accuracy is good. Velocity average is currently 3008 fps at my elevation of 6800' +. At longer ranges (over 250 or so yards) I only take broadside heart/lung shots. I have pass throughs at up to 350 yards on elk.

I haven't drawn a WY moose tag, but if I do and am not in bad bear country I'll probably take it with the ULA. If in bad bear country I would carry my 375 H & H or my 9.3 74R with heavier bullets.

I never got her Adrondiak set up, she used my Kimber montana in 7-08 with 140 grain accubonds.
125 yard shot through the heart and lungs, it went 5 steps and flipped over. Happy Lady! It hit a rib on the entrance side and was retrieved from under the hide on the far side. She was under strict guidelines on how far to shoot and only broadside.
She passed up on 6 or 7 bulls before we got one in the right position.

Congratulations on a successful hunt. I have enjoyed hunting with a 7mm-08 since 1982 and find it has all that I need for whitetails. Nice to know it will drop a moose easily as well.
