I found one locally and is asking $700. Is that fair? Has a 4 power period redfield. Has sights 22" barrel jeweled bolt and extractor. Seems like a good deal? Thanks for any info! White Mountains Arizona

If the 22" barrel is factory length it is a Featherweight. Jewelling is not factory. $700 is a good price providing it's in good shape. Late Pre'64's aren't as collectible as earlier ones as the checkering panels were smaller from about 1960 and wood to metal fit wasn't as good as earlier versions. I have a '62 Fwt. 270 and while it's a solid rifle and a good shooter it doesn't compare to my 1950 standard 30-06 in the areas mentioned above. Hard core collectors will scoff at a '63 model but it's a solid rifle.

Ok thanks. It is marked featherweight on the barrel. What type of stocks did they put on featherweights? In any case it sounds like it may be worth it especially with the cool scope. Yeah the jeweling is not factory as I have never seen one with a jewelled extractor. It is definitely "used" but has character White Mountains Arizona
