I would buy whichever is cheaper. The only rifle I ever had in 308 that would not shoot was a Kimber.

boring..? really.. I have shot the .308 for many many years. I find it a great round.. still one of the top selling rounds/rifles/ and reloading die today. still one of the top long range rounds out there. still used by the military. boring?... this is going to a friend that don't have a lot of money. both of these rifles are good shooters. they may not be Winchester 70s or the rem 700 But a .308 being boring.. never.... and yes it will be a .308

The 308 is a very under-appreciated round. Does just about whatever is needed in 95% of hunting situations.

After 15000+ rounds down range, I get the boring aspect of it. I needed to switch to something different that I couldn't hit with out to 1000 yds with boringly predictable results.

You can't go wrong with either rifle. Or look for a clean Rem 788 for cheap thrills.
Here's hoping you enjoy your .308 for all that it is.

I just recently bought my 2nd Savage. I choose the new 16 Lightweight in 308. Did a rattle can paint job and added a bigger bolt handle.

Weighs 5.5 lbs naked and a little less than 7 with a 3-10 Weaver Grand Slam Tactical I had laying around. I wanted a light weight 308 mountain rifle.

I tried to bore sight at the 100 yard lane at the range a burned through too much ammo getting on paper and then sighted. Luckily I had some Mag Tip reloads that worked well in my 77 RSI. 3 shots one hole with this load. Now I need to find load that uses a bullet with a better ballistic coefficient. My other Savage is a 223 Precision Carbine and it shoots lights out.

Savage is not very pretty but for this one I wanted an super lightweight that I could drag around a mountain and not worry about it getting roughed up. I want to do a free range Aoudad sheep in the Davis mountains in the next 2 years.

I was a little shocked it was that hot. Speer #13 shows a max charge of 49 with Reloader 15. I was 2 grains under max.

With 47 grs. of RL-15 you should be getting over 2900 FPS based on the 308s I have owned over the years or the one I have now..

My all time .308 Win. Load has been 48 grs. of WW-748 in my Savage 99 for a bit over 2800 FPS or 48.5 of same in a bolt action for something over 2900 FPS, good .308 powder and you get a little less pressure it seems at least in my guns it has..also very accurate, the Savage 99 shoots an inch as a rule and many time a little better than an inch (3 shot groups )...Some condem 3 shot groups for accuracy testing, but I'm strictly a hunter, and never shoot more than 3 and try like hell for one shot, so it works for me.

I probably forgot to mention it has a 20" barrel so I guess 2875 seems about right based on your experience. I generally shoot 3 shot groups because It's always hot in Texas and barrels heat up fast, especially a pencil barrel like on this rifle.

Scott, nice lightweight piece and great shooter. As you research Aoudad oufitters, let me know what you find out. I have one mounted now, but want to hunt for a true trophy.
