A local shop has one of these on the rack for $299 and can likely get it for $250.. Don't really know much about them except that they appear to be based on the Mauser 96 design and the quality seems very good.

Not much info on this round except that it appears to be roughly the same as the 35 Whelen. I've read that it was a good round but poorly marketed in ugly rifles at the time, part of the reason for its demise.

What's the thoughts on Husqvarna in general and this cartridge in particular? (Obviously a handloading proposition only). What other calibers might this easily be converted to?

And, finally, is this a decent price for this piece....don't have any pricing guides handy. The rifle is in very good + condition.

TIA

Bob

This is not a factory rifle. The commercial Husqvarna rifles were never chambered for 350 Remington magnum. This is either a rebarreled military rifle or maybe a commercial Husqvarna 96 Mauser action rifle that was rebarreled. My bet is it's a recent import military rifle that has been rebarreled.

The .350 Rem magnum was an okay cartridge. It never got much of a following. You can probably still find some factory ammo for it collecting dust in some old gunshops. With some diligence you could gather up some brass and reload for it easy enough.

As for a $299 price tag....maybe, maybe not. Depends on the competence in which it was put together and quality of the components used. Unless it really turns you on, $300 military conversions in more uncomplicated and useful calibers are rather common.

There is one other great big maybe on this; check to see if it might possibly be a factory Husqvarna rifle in .358 Norma Magnum. If it is, BUY IT, as there are some diehard Husqvarna collectors that will be beating a path to your door to buy it from you and offering to double (at least) your money on it.

If it is a 350 Rem Mag, it was rebarreled/rechambered at some time. Husquavarna rifles are good quality firearms. As mentioned, if it is a 358 NM, snap it up. If it is a 358, it should be based on a 98 type action (a lot of Huskies were). 350 Rem Mag ammo was still available from Remington last time I checked, but only the 200 gr bullet weight. If you handload, especially in a rifle of this action length (you can seat the bullet out further), it is very easy to beat 35 whelen ballistics by about 100 fps in all bullet weights. - Dan

Thanks Matt and Dan...

Yeah, guess it is a rebarrel job. Was hoping I found a nice deal, but am leary of the quality of what was done, as was mentioned above. Not yet my turn to find a gem in the pawnshop.
