Hi guys, besides yours truly, who on this forum shoots an 8mm Rem. Mag, and what are your opinions of this cartridge. I love mine. With a 175 gr Sierra ( moly coated by me ) and a max load of RL 19, I get 3300+ fps and sub moa groups. Best of 7/16" for 3 at 100 yds. Recoil is easily managed.
This version of UBB lets you do searches, a search of this catagory shows lots of comments RE 8MM. Just a thought, helps to get a general background impression. Have fun!!

I also shoot the 8mm Mag. I seldom shoot bullets less then 200 and then only Rem 185. I use H4831SC around 80 grains, and get kissing close to 3000 fps. This is a stiff load. I am going to try other powders IMR7828, H1000, and the new Retumbo. I've gotten god results accuracy wise with RX22 and RX25. Speeds are unknown at this time. I use the Hornady and Sierra 220 grain Spitzer Boat tail Speer 200gr Mag tip. I have yet to find the new MatchKings in 8MM.
I have had a love affair with the 8MM since it came out. I never got a BDL I have the Classic 700 Rem. What we need is to convince other manufactures to jump on the band wagon.
Probably one of the most underrated guns around. Remington never did hype this gun the way they do the short Magnums etc. I went out of product I think about 1987 but is still available from the custom shop. There are now more bullets available for the rifle than when it was in production. The bullets under 185 will come apart pretty easy at magnum velocities. Mine is a Remington BDL 24” barrel and the load I use is 84.0 Gr of RL-25. 3008 fps with a Sierra 220 Gameking. That beats my 300 Weatherby with a 200 Gr. Gameking (3014 fps 24” barrel Rem Classic) foot-pounds wise all the way to 500 but loses the trajectory battle at 500 by a half inch. I think it will work in a pinch.
I have one. a Rem 700 with a 26" barrel. I built it for the extra velocity. I can get 3100 from 220 gr Hornadies over a stiff load of H4831SC (82gr). Very nice groups, very nice elk gun. - Dan

I've got a Classic and have used it on deer and elk. Presently I'm playing around with the Swift 220 A-Frame and Reloader 25. Good groups and close to 3000 fps.
Hopefully, I'll take it to Namibia in 2003. It looks like a Kudu killer to me!

I shoot one (700 Classic) and it looks like there's a bunch of folks that have more experience with more loads than me. I'm glad to see that the results with RL-25 are just about what Alliant said you should get. Velocities of 3100 and 3000 for 200 and 220 gr. bullets, respectively, with RL-25 seem attainable from what I see here. I needed some motivation like that since I've had a pound of RL-25 sitting next to a box of 220 Hornadys for about a year and haven't yet loaded a single round.
I have used H4831 and 200 gr. Partitions at 3016 fps. The factory 185's go 2960 fps in my rifle. -WSJ
JJ, I believe it matches up with the Shilen #3 contour. I'm not even sure who's barrel it was, it's been a while, I'll have to dig through my records. - Dan
