I recently had the chance to try a bit of spearfishing whilst visiting with EXPRESS. First opportunity that I have had - but Hell, it was FUN! There is a lot of the anticipation and suspense that you get in a stalk on dry land - with the added benefit that your wife/other can happily snooze in the sun while you play. Anyone out there done any? Is it as big a deal as Im starting to think it might be? Any do's and don't for a complete novice? Rgds Ian

hey mate, not surprised to see you posting here now... you might want to check out www.spearfishing.com www.bwhi.com.au www.freedive.net I forgot to mention that I did a trip to the coral sea with two poms a few years back if I can find thier contacts, I'll see if you can get in touch with them. These guys were good, bloody good, one guy worke as an underwater welder and good dive to 40m(145ft) with about 2minutes on the bottom at that depth. The most important things are; Your mask, your bottom time, your resistance underwater (you use up oxygen much faster if you are exherting yourself) and your stalking skills. Stalking skills do not neccessarily mean concealment skills. Sometimes, as you found out for yourself, you have to make a "stalk" in open water, you just need to know about how to make yourself look less conspicuous to the fish. Look up Terry Maas, he has a great book on blue water hunting, the big game leuge of spearfishing. Enjoy. [ 12-04-2003, 15:38: Message edited by: EXPRESS ]
