Anyone ever use a bayonett for spear hunting?

When I was a youngster,I made my spears from throwing knives.I used the double edged type with leather wrapped handles.

Saw a slot in the end of a 5 foot long push broom handle,insert knife handle into slot and
wind cotton chalk line around handle in the same manner an eye is wrapped onto a fishing rod.If it is wrapped tight enough the knife will never move.

I made several spears in this manner and never bent or broke a blade.
