The US Navy dive schools, both SCUBA and hard hat have been consolidated
at the Navy Support Facility-Panama City up from the beach. An excellent area for spear fishing. Lots of flounder, pompano, and various snapper including vermilion sub-species. Water is relatively clear, but in late August its
can be small man-o-war and jelly fish. Caveat.

My SCUBA training is military, but at the Special Forces Combat Dive Course-Key West. Years ago. Still enjoy spear fishing as you ideally get to choose your fish-and it is like hunting fish.

I fish weekly in the bay and have never seen or lost a fish to a bull shark.

Back in April 04 late on a Tuesday evening. I was told to be home for court Friday morning. From East Point to Pueblo 1634 miles. That was a mighty long drive with the hammer down all the way. Then they didn't call me!

I drove thru there. Sure liked the looks of that bay and beach. Never gotten back.

Its August, temps are up. Best fishing is early morning, with a tank and gear-18-30 feet deep.
No boat needed for snapper and Pompano, but deeper for Gag grouper. Lots of fish.
Jellyfish may be out. Sharks are possible, but only a problem at dawn or dusk-their vision is limited.
