Just wondering if any AR members have ever fished with Ixtapa/Zihuataneo Sportfishing. We are trying to put togeather a fishing trip with four other couples but don't want to learn the hard way, that maybe we should have gone somewhere else. The web site for this company looks good but wonder how good the fishing really is. Mexico is more in the cost range of the group. If you know other places that are great fishing,Marlin, sailfish etc. any info would be great.

Hi, I have been fishing to ixtapa 6 times, best time is to go in the winter and to stay in ixtapa (the boats leave out of zihuatanejo dock) wich is a 10 to 15 dollar cab ride. Your best bet is to stay at any of the hotels in ixtapa and on the first day go to the docks in zihuatanejo and set up the fishing from there, don´t book a boat before you go and don´t book throught the hotel as you will pay a premium. Once you get to the docks on your first day (around 2 pm) you will be able to decide whatt you want to charter Super pangas are twenty something foot apen fishermen that go for about 240 a day. And from there there are progressively larger boats you can charter up to about 65 foot for the largest I believe. We usually just charter the supper pangas as most of the fishing is done within sight of land. We usually went during new years and the first days of january. If you have any more questions you can pm me, I can even give you the numbers of some of the capitans we have been with. Patrick
