I m looking for a good place to buy hand made or wood type snowshoes as well as the supply's to make your own. The ones I have now are not large enough for powder snow. I m in need of a 250lbs powder snow rating. Disabled Vet(non-combat) - US Army NRA LIFE MEMBER Hunter, trapper, machinest, gamer, angler, and all around do it your selfer. Build my own CNC router from scratch. I installed the hight wrong. My hight moves but the rails blocks 3/4 of the hight.....

When I was a kid I always wanted to make my own, but no adult would help me. Someday I might get around to it. I have two pairs of wonderfully made traditional native 'shoes. The natives used a very tight weave of rawhide not like the commercial wooden ones you used to see. The holes are no more than 3/8 of an inch in diameter. The commercial ones use 1/4" wide lacing but the natives used wet rawhide and pulled it into very tight and thin strands called babiche. First you'll have to kill a moose and make some rawhide....... Let us know if you make any, I'd love to see the pics. the chef

12x60 Ojibwa would be good for 250+ lbs. and work well in brush as well as on the trail. Country Ways (formerly Wilcox and Williams) is the best. http://snowshoe.com/index.cfm?pageid=1 http://www.chichesterinc.com/Snowshoes.htm http://www.snowshoestore.com/ http://www.mgsnowshoes.com/ http://www.runamucktradingco.c...oor-Fun_2902957.html http://www.snowshoecenter.com/...=235&DepartmentID=35 Tubular nylon lacing may not be traditional but it works very well and is easier to maintain than leather lacing. You learn something new everyday whether you want to or not.

LL Bean used to be the source for wooden shoes , Now I think all the sell are high tech shoes .. I,ve got some high tech powder shoes in mind . I hate sinking down a foot or more , and I don,t want to wait till spring to wander around on foot ... . something on the order of 7feet long and 12 " wide with about 8" of rise at the pointed tips . I just need to find the right aluminum channel for the frames .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....
