Here is a link to a few good choices.
It's hard to make a proper recommendation w/o knowing what/how you want to use it.
I have a Fenix LD15 I carry in my pocket and really like it. The convienance of using AA's is a good thing because I use mine at work more than home, but I got my kids some that use CR123's that last a long time.

Hi,

I have just purchased a Princeton Remix. For my uses it is great: small, light, strong and with a 70 lumix max, two led sizes with two intensities. Very good!

For me myself the best one is the Black Diamond Storm:
http://titanium-gunworks.de/fl...irnlampen/storm.html

It is compact, has a powerfull beam, the power is stabilized, so you having till batteries end the same power of light, red light and...
Especially as it is on the size of an egg it makes it to the perfect light for me.

If You want more light or the "workhorse" itself - the Icon is powerfull, but much bigger as well:

Petzyl MYO RXP II: fully adjustable beam from 4 lumens (perfect inside a tent and reading) to 160 lumens in overdrive mode.

I used this in Alaska with lithium AA's and it was fantastic. The diffuser is super easy to use even with glvoes on, the spot worked excellent and with the lithium batteries I didn't notice the weight of the battery pack at all. Just a great piece of kit.

Regards,

Robert

x2 on Petzl myo RXP. Outstanding and better than Black Diamond after trying them both. I use mine for running, crosscountry skiing, and have it in my backpack both while hunting or mountaineering. Have also always in my backpack petzl e-lite.

Sauer and Zeiss, perfect match.

OK, Big Grin I can buy no name brand headlamps for a portion of the price of the Petzels. Picked them up at assorted places and they have served me well on the farm and the trail, for years. Why should I spend the extra money ? Always thought them way overpriced for what you get.

How much do you want to spend? How rugged does you light need to be? I'm a caver, and I've got an assortment of headlamps. For a cheap, semi-reliable headlamp, look at the Cabela's XPG lights. They've served me well. If you want ultimate reliability, with SUPER bright light, check out the STEN Light. http://www.stenlight.com/ I've got one and I use it for everything... 100% the best light available for all around reliability and brightness.

Up the side of a mountain with a cheep ass torch is not the place I want to find my self.
Always had good results with the European made Petzel's.

My favorite, and most used, I even use it around the place all the time, is the Petzel, with 3 AAA batteries tht has the red flip down lens, I think they call it the Tactical. It has a high, med, low and flash. It is small enough to carry in you pants pocket.

That way you always have it with you.

I would like to try one of the SureFire headlights, but have not done so yet...

I don't have a lot of experience with headlamps for comparison but when I was in the market for a good one about 15 years ago, I was advised to purchase a Black Diamond.

I bought said Black Diamond headlamp 15 years (or more) ago and it is still the only headlamp I have ever owned. It works great today just as it did 15 years ago. Never had any trouble with it. Sorry, I don't know the model but it has a Halogen bulb for brightness and an LED for longevity. Uses 3 AA's.

The point I'm making is that I'm not up to date on the latest / greatest models on the market. There is a reason for that. 15 years ago, I purchased this Black Diamond headlamp and I've never had the need or desire to replace it. They are, or at least were, absolute TOP QUALITY! And this one has seen a lot of use from Alaska, Russia, The High Rockies, Africa, even the rigors of Boy Scout Camp!

Black Diamond, highly recommend them!

At the Home Depot, they have on the cheap displays at the front of the stores here in Miami (don’t know of other areas) some cheap head lamps at less than $5.00 per pair. They are not great lamps, not very strong but good light and at that price you can buy several and discard them when they die.
