The best way I've found of getting used to doing these sorts of things is not to practice it but to live it. Using these firestarting / survival techniques instead of just practicing them is the best method. If you light a fire on a camping trip or even just to burn some rubbish......use your cotton ball/vaseline /striker......if your fishing at the lake.....throw up your emergency shelter for a windbreak or sun shade or whatever...actually using this sort of thing is how it becomes automatic... not just practiced
