Does anybody out there have experience with one or both of these. I am considering buying a new pair of 400 gram insulated boots. I have narrowed it down to these two models and I have looked at them extensively online. (Capital Sports carries the Raptor but not the Santiam so I am unable to compare them side x side.) I can't seem to tell a difference between them. I was wondering if one might have an advantage over the other that might allow it to take the lead. Is one better than the other for hiking in the mountains or side hilling in the breaks? "I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me." -- General George S. I have a pair of santiams and I find they are good boots for pheasant hunting and anywhere you are on soil. I do not care for them on rocks or pavement. They have an air bob sole in the middle of the footprint that extends farther than the rest of the sole and it feels unstable on hard surfaces. On soil or in fields they have good traction. For mountain hunting and general hiking, I have had good luck with Meindl and LaSportiva boots.

I appreciate the info DaveC, but I am pretty loyal to Danner and or Schnees. I can't seem to bring myself to buy anything else. I do currently have a pair of Danner Frontiers uninsulated. They are extremely comfortable, work great when stalking antelope or mulies on the flats, but are not that great for side hilling in the breaks. They get excellent traction but I wish they offered more support in the ankle. "I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me." -- General George S. Patton
