EDIT: Report --> CLICK HERE Hi Guys, just got back from a Dall sheep and mountain caribou hunt in the Northwest Territories, with Stan Simpson's Ramhead Outfitters. Spent 10+ days hunting and hiking in the Makenzie Mountains. I'll post a hunt report over on the proper forum with detail and pictures when I get a chance, but here are a few of the trophy picts: My Hard-Earned Dall Sheep My Hunting Partner (Chance) & I With Our Rams A Very Nice Mountain Caribou What a View! Regards, Bill

Terrific - great hunt. The more one thinks about it - it is so obvious that the kind of hunt you just completed is real hunting. Congratulations ALLEN W. Thanks guys, I miss the mountains and my Lowa's already! Brad, the Kimber Montana is a .270 WSM, and I used Federal factory 140gr AccuBond. I don't know if they are the "best", but they were certainly "good enough". Unfortunately, we didn't recover any of the bullets, as with both the sheep and the caribou I shot them at last light and just getting off the mountain was a real treat ("siwashed" and all, but that's another story!). Anyway, my partner used 130gr Winchester Silvertips in his Savage .270WSM, which initially seemed a bit light to me, but they worked super on two long, albeit perfectly-placed shots. He had used the AccuBonds on a Mtn Goat hunt last year in BC and was not impressed as the goat needed lots of killing, but goats are tuff.

Congratulations, Bill... a nice change of scenery from the African bush! Excellent ram and 'bou. Look forward to your story! I don't know guys, not sure if it is the mountains, the physical and/or mental challenge, the sheep, or all of the above - but the darn sheep bug bites pretty hard! And a guy can have more then one passion, right? Aziz, thanks for the help beforehand, you were spot on with the suggestions. And believe it or not, I made the caribou portion of the hunt out to be quite an exciting undertaking. Richard - here is the link to all the outfitters in the NWT. I'll do a full report on my hunt, which may help you out with the details and stuff I learned by doing it and asking lots of questions. http://www.explorenwt.com/adventures/sport-hunting/Outfitters.asp I personally communicated with, and heard good things from the guides about: * Stan Simpson (Ramhead Outfitters - who I hunted with) - ramheadoutfitters@hotmail.com * Kelly Hougen (Artic Red River) - kelly@hougens.com There are good outfitters in the Yukon too (spoke to Chris Widrig) Join FNAWS: http://www.fnaws.org/ and/or GrandSlam http://www.wildsheep.org/

Cheers Bill! There is an addictive quality about the clear, cold air and the wide open of northern mountains, isn't there! Were you, by chance, able to feast on the ribs roasted over a willow fire, high in the mountains? That is certainly one of the finest experiences life on this earth has to offer. Congratulations!

Well done Bill, looking forward to your full report! Your photos have got me thinking (much to my wife's displeasure) how I can move money from one account to the other, or else extend the mortgage to enable me to see this part of the world.

Great sheep and great hunt. I was in AK this time last year on my Sheep hunt. Absolutely the most physically demanding thing I've ever done. You'll never forget it and you'll tell the stories for the rest of your life.

Bill, Very nice trophies you got there. I am sure they were well deserved too. Now thats living your dreams. I have belonged to the Eastern Chapter of FNAWS almost from its beginnings and even if you never get to go hunting sheep you ( I have not gone ...yet)are still entertained by the stories of those members that have. They also fund a lot of great causes for the future of hunting, and not just sheep either. Woody

Hard earned is right! Dall hunting is by far the hardest I've ever had to work. Congrats on some great trophies! Was it like...the whole time you are doing it you swore you would never put yourself through that again? and then you finally made it to base camp and within 5 minutes were thinking "What about that 38"er we saw walking out over the next ridge? He might be 40 next year...hmmm." haha, been there.

For those that don't visit the Hunting Reports forums often, and may not have seen this, I did a full report on the hunt w/lots of pictures. Hunt Report --> CLICK HERE Woody - Perhaps I'll see you at this years FNAWS show in Lancaster. Looks like there will be only a few sheep guides attending though. 2007 Convention February 15 - 17th, 2007
