I know this may be a unusal place to post a question like this BUT I thought long range big game stuff is not really varmiting and being up in the hills and valleys is a prime spot for a long range shot with my new tikka stainless laminate in 300WSM.
This rifle shoots VERY well 1" grp @ 300 yrds is common place now the bullet with which it does this is the 180gr SPBT Speer.
Does anyone use these bullets for their hunting? Good...Bad what ever just after feed back, I have been using them on feral goats here and they seem to perfom well, dead before they hit the ground type of thing at distances from 50 - 500 yrds same effect.....on goats, but how do they perform on bigger stuff is what I want to know.

A 300 WSM 180 grn speer will drop a lot of big game or "bigger stuff". It all depends on the range to the targeted animal. Try the caliber sections of this site and they will give you all the ballistic info you ever need.
I have killed from small 100 lbs blacktail deer to 700 lbs Bull Elk with 30 calibers.

While the 180 will do the job on our animals you will probably find that the speer 165 BTSP would be a better performer giving a flatter trajectory and more than adequate knockdown on everything to Tahr and Waps.
It is also highly recomended as a top long range performer.
I have used Speers for years in 243, 6.5 and 30 cal and I think they are, along with Noslers, the best projectile for our big game.

I used the 180 Speer Spitzer BT on both Mule Deer @ 310 yds and cow Elk @ about 200 yds in my 30-06 with out a hitch. Both pass throughs, no shot up meat; just DRT.

L. David Keith160 grain Speer Grand Slam from my .280/7mm Express in Ruger M-77. Bull Elk at 575 yards. They aren't SPBT's but they are Speer bullets. Most Hunters I know have been very pleased with performance on big game.

DoublessI love Speer bullets, and I have shot a lot of them at deer and pigs. But for my money, go with something a bit more controlled. I speak from experience. I shot a 5X5 bull in 1997 with a 150-grain Speer GS out of a .270. He was at 200, and the bullet fragmented and did not exit. I got both lungs and the heart, but for my money, a better bullet is needed.
With the amount of money, time, energy and effort spent to get up where the big guys hang out, to scrimp on bullet cost is irresponsible, to me...
Buy the best bullet you can afford. You won't be sorry!

The problem with premiums here is that they are through the animal and out the othersidebefore they are properly open.
Non premium bullets are generally better killers on our game as they open more quickly on our lighter game. The majority of our game is deer sized or smaller. The exception is the Wapiti which are hunted only if you are lucky enough to draw a block in the bugle. Then by all means get a premium but a waste of money and animals otherwise.

IanFSame here in the UK. Lots of smaller species that can often have premium bullets zipping through.
Majority of my shooting is sub 200yds but on-target accuracy is consistently good, whilst terminal performance is generally excellent.
Recommended as a solid value for money buy. Good accuracy and full pass through at shorter ranges. Massive internal damage on chest shot Bucks at longer ranges,dead on their feet and down in twenty yards.
