Check out this site! I think you'll find it interesting! Their "Austintacious Tortilla Soup" is excellent! A little high in sodium.... but tastes great! As Mike pointed out below, I forgot to include the link..... which is PackitGourmet.com That's what happens when I'm talking on the phone and typing

While comparing Cliff Bars to PowerBars You should really try a LARABAR... http://www.larabar.com/ they are unbelieveable, they are as much better than Clif Bars as Clif bars are to PowerBars. Though there are varieties of Each I really like. Ever try the Powerbar "Fruit Smoothy" flavor? I still like the original Power Bar, the "Malt Nut" flavor but they are hard to find, but the Chocolate ones are almost like a healthy tootsie roll. Allan, on your recommendation, I bought a couple of LÄRABARs (apple pie & cherry pie). My question: Are they SUPPOSED to taste like that?!!!! I hope they're healthy ....'cause they taste gawd awful!

LÄRABARs are composed of raw ingredients and all contain some dates and some kind of nut. the Pistacio and Cashew for instance have TWO ingredients (dates and the named nut) IF you don't like dates you probably won't like a LÄRABAR The Cherry pie if you read the label has all of three ingredients: Dates, Almonds and unsweetened (dried)cherries. I'm especially fond of the Pistashio and the Cherry flavors. the cherry is kinda tart but I like sour cherries... I haven't actually had the apple, I'm not sure about the coconut in the variety of chocolate-coconut LÄRABAR I tried... Ithink that would have worked better flavor wise with toasted coconut. I have yet to catch up with any of the Cashew or "Pecan Pie" No long list of unpronouncable ingredients. Thinking on it I'm pretty sure I could create my own and reduce or eliminate the date content for some flavor combinations, but I actually like dates. I do want to try making my own Apricot/Pistachio flavor. AD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day! Dang! That's no lie!
I'm also thinking of ways to reverse-engineer some trail food. I'm concentrating on "boil in the bag" type stuff. Trying to duplicate ..... but with lower sodium.

I tend to like thins a bit tart rather than sickly sweet. Considering the typical retail price on a LÄRABAR I am greatly motiated to expirement. I'm thinking that a Cherry-Almond bar with a blend of both sweet and sour cherries would be good to kinda tone down the sour... I can eat apricots dried or fresh in nearly limitless quantities (to the point just short of propulsive defecation) so for an Apricot almond bar I'm not sure I'd need dates at all. I'm thinking a combination of finely ground dried apricots (a thick puree)mixed with some less finely chopped apricots (to achieve the proper texture) and using toasted almonds... Probably turkish apricots for the paste and california ones for the chunks, in the name of balancing the tartness California apricots tend towards the sour(And dry), turkish ones generally sweeter (and more moist) Or Turkish apricots califrnia dries peaches and chopped toasted hazelnuts (getting any ideas?) Another thought was making a date based apple-cranberry bar Making a chocolate brownie with black walnuts would be cool too... freshness could be prolonged by inert gas purging before vacuum sealing Half the fun will be eating the failed expirements. At some point I'm going to need a vacuum sealer, but in all honesty I wanted one anyway. I long ago discovered that things that you like and go well together work together in almost any proportion.... and how good they taste depends more on mood at the time you eat it than anything else... I just got a bit of inspiration when I fould a couple of packages of Guava paste... I think that used to "glue together" some chopped dried mango and some cashews will make an outstanding energy bar AD AD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day! I clicked on the link and the first thing you see is a RECALL of their goods. Thanks, but no thanks! ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

I finally got around to trying Cliff Bars this past week. Holy cow! No more Power Bars for me! They taste better, are easier to eat (Power Bars are murder to eat when cold) and they have better nutrition and more calories per ounce. What's not to like? 0351 USMC

That's related to the NATIONWIDE avalanche of recalls from ANYONE who used peanuts from the nations largest peanut distributor. ANYTHING with peanuts can be subject to those warnings/recalls. the products not being recalled either used peanuts from some other supplier or the manufacturers involves are LYING about who supplied their nuts. As for the Lara page comming up on the recall? give them a big round of applause because they are trying to be up front about a POTENTIAL problem. BTW the "frozen powerbar" problem? If you only keep a limited number in an inside pocket you won't eat them all as fast. Powerbars being thinner fit in some pockets better. and as a note I intentionally carry a couple of flavors that I don't like because I know I'll "save them" for "later".
