Not sure why you would need this on a external frame
Pack. I have a little hook on my pack post and my sling hangs on that with my arm thru the sling. I can tie my boots and it don't move.
Ted is it just me or are you leaning in both those photos? Kinda makes it look like the lean is what's helping hold the sling on instead of the sling keeper? Just and FYI for future phot plugs of your product.
Also curious have you tried mounting it right on top of your shoulder instead of in the front? Seems maybe it would hold better on the top?

ted thornYou can locate it anywhere you like.
Some packs won't allow top of shoulder placement because of load lifters
No lean required

sambarman338If it grips the sling to stop it moving up and down, it could be a good idea. I've found the issue while climbing steepish hills is not that the rifle comes off my shoulder but that it rolls around to be horizontal.

BrittmanTed,
Is it me, or are your SS screws a bit short? I am thinking of ordering a smooth one so
I don't tear up my leather sling?

ted thornThey are 3/4" long and are not intended to go all of the way through to the end of the front edge
Ultra lightweight was our target as these are geared towards the backpacking hunter.
This is why the 1/4-20 screw hole is drilled and tapped through.
The stud tips the scale at less then one ounce.

DesertRamInstalled mine on the Exo K2 last night in preparation for this weekend's elk hunt. It's solid and seems like it'll work. I think I'll pull it off after the hunt for a quick spray paint job since mine is an original matte stainless-type finish.

lavacaTed,
I know you sent me a PM some time ago. I've been busy. I want one of these things. I'm going to walk the Wuku river this October and while trackers will carry the bulk of the camp, I'll have a pack too. How do I buy one of these things, preferably anodized in OD or black, but I can work with that. Thanks.
