Rather than step all over Rob's thread on the Hilleberg tents, I thought I would start this one. Really, really like these Nordic tipis derived from the Saami's ancient shelters: http://tentipi.com/home,en-gb There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

Interesting. I've not seen these before. Years ago I had a tipi style backpack tent that I can't remember the name of right now. It was lightweight, had a lot of interior room and was pretty waterproof. But you needed some kind of ground cloth which do course added to the weight. I usually used 3 mil plastic. The down side to them is they don't keep out bugs or rodents very well because there isn't a floor. You also have to use a little more care then a conventional tent when pitching them in the wind. Overall I liked it. I used to backpack a lot when I was young and for a couple years spent most of the summer in the mountains in it. Another brand I think is still made is Kifaru which has similar features. They just don't have the bigger sizes. The Nordic tent tipi's you are referring to. If weight is not an issue, they are the cadillac of tents in comfort, quality of construction and their extreme ability to deal with mother nature. They are an excellent base camp or extended wilderness shelter with amenities. They make them with bug netting if so desired. They are in the $2,000 range and up. To give credit to the Swede's, they also make the best tent stove bar none, if weight is not an issue. ELDFELL tipi stoves are the Rolls Royce of stoves. They are wood's people that have pride, engineering, and innovation that reminds me of the Germans. Kudos to all of them.

Seek Outside makes a few tipis, and a couple pyramid type tipis. The Cimarron has a lot going for it, at least for this kid. Nice balance of size, sorta big but not huge footprint, protection from the elements, and light weight. Ala carte on these or any of the other tipi types, you can get an inner nest if so desired. Cut down on the bugs, snakes, rain and whatnot from raining on your parade. So to speak..
