I've been deer hunting for a week, I've seen a lot of deer & quite a high number of bucks, things are looking up in Idaho! I've packed my 7 1/2" Lipseys 44 special for several days & also traded off with my 10 1/2" Ruger 357 Maxie in case I needed to stretch the barrel a little bit over the iron sights of the Lipseys 44 special.
Today I decided to make a little drive up the road to check on one of my son's & a grandson, after spotting them walking off the mountain I headed back to the camper for breakfast....well, after being frustrated all summer I spotted a nice badger working his way across a stubble field, I eased off the road after driving past 100 yds & made my way back towards the oncoming badger.
My Lipseys 44 special was loaded with the Skeeter load of 7.5 grs of Unique & the 240 gr cast hollow point, eveything was assembled in Shootists 44 special brass.
As I peeked over the tall grass in front of me the badger looked my way, stopped for a couple of seconds & kept right on coming my way, at about 35 yds he stopped again & raised his head for a better look, I turned his lights out with a shot through his noggin, he just folded & never moved....yippie, I had blooded my very special SPECIAL!
He's very well furred & the markings are beautiful, anyone wanting a great badger pelt can have this one, I have 3 of them in the freezer now, although one belongs to Barranti.

Here he is posing with the Lipseys 44 special & the superb Barranti crossdraw rig, you can see the Badger track on the holster.

One of the prettiest badgers you will ever see...of course they're all pretty!

Nice set up Dick.
The holster was not made by chance from an old friend of mine up there in Idaho by name of 'Gary Hanson' was it?
He stamps his holsters with a similar paw print.

I have a little Lipseys 4-5/8" Bisley flat-top 44 spl. It is quickly becoming my favorite woods walkin gun.

The crossdraw holster was made by the master hide stretcher Mike Barranti, I have several & they are as good as it gets.
I too enjoy the 44 flattop a great deal, its a wonderful packing gun. I've taken a couple of Montana whitetails with mine.

just picked up a bisley just like yours but a 4 5/8s. To be honest i havent had time to even put a round through it though and probably wont till after deer season but it seems like an exceptionaly well put together ruger. Is yours a shootist gun. If so how did the front sight work out. Al has two of them and they both need taller sights.

Lloyd, mine is a Shootist gun & I did build the front sight up a bit with JB Weld, good thing about using it is you can pop it off & never know the difference yet its very durable.
Hope all is well with Al.

he hasnt been doing to well. they delayed his surgery again yesterday because the last one still hasnt healed enough. Now they have him sceduled for surgery a couple days before deer season so even if he would have been capable of hunting he sure isnt going to be now.

Congrats and go Broncos!!!

Those badgers can be tough. My son and I went out shooting them in the desert on a hot summer night and I was amazed at how many there were out there. We ended up shooting at 7 and getting 5 of the 7 with a .223. We were thinking that all were hit but they are tough.

I went back out there a week later and on the way to the place, at night, I saw a very large one in the middle of the road. The first impulse was to swerve to miss him and then the better thought of run the sucker over. I hit him with the front left tire and it felt like I hit a large rock. There was some blood on the hood and he drug himself off the road and into his hole when I turned around to shoot him. I thought for sure he would be dead right there.

They are tough.... good shooting and congrats.
