Hey guys,

I just got a glock 29 for an all around pistol, and I was looking for a load to match, I want somthing that I can take into the woods with me or use for home defense if I have to. Right now I'm using 200 grn XTP rounds from Hornady what are some other rounds to look into?

the Corbon 180 grain bonded core soft point is a good hunting load. I've used to take a few decent Texas pigs with my Glock 20. However I consider it too much penatration for self defense unless that's all you had. The Winchester Silvertip is what I load for the few times I carry the Glock socially. I've read on GlockTalk a few people have used the SilverTips for deer hunting but I haven't and wouldn't. The Hornady XTP is more than likely as close as you're going to get for a dual pupose bullet.

The 10 Ring forum and 10mm reloading forum on GlockTalk is the best compilation of information on the 10mm in general and the G20 & G29 specifically available (imo)

My experience with the 10 is that the shorter barrels just don't allow the cartridge to get the full benefit of the best 10mm powders.

Alliant Power Pistol seems to do a pretty decent job in the short barrels compared to blue dot and 2400, but you are still down with the hot 40s. BUT, what you can do is safely load the larger bullets that 40 shooters only dream about. Assuming you can find them, the 220gr seems perfect for the compact 10mm barrels.

Or you might can use a longer barrel. I'm not a glockster so I'll leave that for you to experiment with.

I have been using a Colt Delta Elite 10mm since 1987 and now also a Glock 20 10mm. The loads that I carry are 200gr Montana Gold @ 950fps, 190gr Sierra JFP @ 1280fps, 200gr Hornady XTP @ 1200fps and Nosler 135gr @ 1650fps. All are fun loads but if I had to only use one it would be the 190gr Sierra.
