I still get excited no matter what I am using. I just love to hunt. When I no longer get excited, I will have a big gun sale, but I don't see that happening any time soon. 2020

Shooting paper is boring, I do it to stay proficient, I like to have live targets. Big Grin

I share your failing eyes but I will contiue to fight with it using open sights as long as i can.

Years ago I could shoot smaller groups with open sights then I can with a red dot but those days are gone.

I agree with bfrshooter about the red dot. They don't magnify, so it's not cheating, but they sure do work well when your eyes aren't those of a 20-year-old! Plus, they work great in low-light conditions........ Several of us here use them including Redhawk1 and bfrshooter.

I guess for me , as there is so much of a challenge just in getting to and from hunting and the hunt itself I don,t feel I need to make it anymore challenging ....Sept for getting real close to bears ....I know I havn,t begun to discover what my 454 can do and I really look foward to that ... I pack it daily and may have to start shooting snowshoe rabbits with it BOOM , head shots only ..
Has anyone played around with removing and replacing their optical sight on the Ruger guns ,,, How well do they come back to zero ...
, Whitworth . I do agree your 475 is definatly big
enough and accurate enough to be a deliberate weapon ...I see John Linebaugh will convert the Bisley Hunter 45 Colt into 454 Casull... With the ability to remove and replace the scope it would serve as a dual purpose pistol ......

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

I love the red-dots, they work great. I do use open sights also, but my go to is a red-dot.

gumboot, I don't take the red dot off. It's a primary hunting weapon, so the optics stay on it. I have to say that the red dot is really easy and fast to acquire, and it only weighs 4-oz. My Casull, and my .44s all have open sites, and my .500 Linebaugh will have open sites as well.

And this is why I shoot chipmunks -- oh, and they tear up the yard! Big Grin

I have fun shooting CB longs in my Ruger Single Six at sparrows. Wish I had chipmunks to shoot.

I am moving to a place that has some kind of nuisance "gopher". I am going to get out my 22LR's and give Whitworth a run for his money.

I will not be in place for a couble of months so he will have a GOOD head start, but I will try to catch up pretty quick. Big Grin lefty 2020

Which will be hard to do as he is shooting pretty good. thumb

Whitworth has done a little experimenting by flat pointing his bullets and the results are very interesting.. Ask him to post on about it.. beer

Whitworth

I am looking foward to it.

You are an inspiration, in the fact that you have found "another" type of hunt, that can add to a persons fun, and enhance their skill.

You have shown how a person, with a "little imagination" can further their enjoyment of their sport and their life.

Whether I am hunting elephants, bear, pigs, whatever, or squirrel, or rabbit for the pot it is all about the FUN.

And putting some meat in the freezer as well.

Some one makes a "device" for flat pointing 22LR ammo. I do not think it will work with CB's or Shorts. but there is not doubt it enhances "killing power".

How come there "ain't any" 40gr Keith 22 LR ammo? Big Grin

Thank you for the kind words! I think inspiration is a bit of a stretch, but I appreciate it nonetheless! I used a fingernail file heisted from my sister to make flat-points, and I have to say that there has been a marked difference in the damage and the way they kill. I needed multiple shots quite frequently with the round noses and I sometimes didn't get exits, on such a pipsqueak of an animal.......more to follow...... Big Grin

I am talking only about myself. A south Texas box blind, heater, comfy office chair, coffie, snacks, sandbags, and a timed corn feeder all add up to killing not hunting "FOR ME". My hunting partner and I like to hunt slow, into or across the wind as a team. We stay insight and in contact of one another most of the time.
We run off more deer than we see, we see more than we kill, alot more, but we have a hell of a good time and anything we bring home is a trophy.
