Well I can use my SRH with 7 1/2" barrel to hit a 9" paper plate at about 65 yds consistently freehand. And the same paper plate can be hit easily at 220 yards with the Encore. That is the longest I have shot with it so far. Need to find a larger gravel pit. Slim

IHMSA competitors regularly shoot the 50 meter chickens at 200 meters for tie breakers. The target is about 8-10 inches around. Shooting freestyle, they hit 5 to 10 of them consistently out of 10 shots. My personal best was a 200 yard groundhog with my Ruger SBH.

My best shot to date is with a savage striker in 308, 150gr 2600fps. The shot was off of a modified field rest/tripod and measured an honest 290yds. It was a neck shot on a small island spike that dropped him in his tracks. We even got it on home video. I'm still surprised !

I have just purchased a new SuperBlackhawk (7 1/2 inch barrell- 44 mag) and have put 300 rounds of handloaded 200 grain xtp's thru it. I can hit a 6"x6" piece of plate steel 7 out of 10 at 100 yards with a freehand butt rest. I will be practicing at 150 yards in the spring just to improve my shooting ability and confidence. I do feel 100 yards will be my personal limit with my SBH (open sights). I almost bought a Hunter model to incorporate a scope but decided I wanted to be an open sight shooter.

When I was still shooting IHMSA silhouette, a group of us shooters from Raleigh got together and went to the annual 500 yard match in Charlottesville, VA. Metallic silhouettes were set up at: 5 sighter rounds were allowed for each distance. It was interesting/amusing to see one guy shooting his .44 mag Freedom Arms revolver... Talk about "holdover"!!! Steve Cole (Charlottesville) had an XP100 for sale that I bought at that match. It was chambered in 7 IHMSA, which is a 300 Savage necked down to 7mm. I then began using my phenomenal negotiating skills and drove him down from $425 all the way to $422 before agreeing. Furtunately, my buddy loaned me 3 bills until we got home (He said if I didn't buy it, he was going to). Then when we got home, he called my wife and told her "I tried to talk him out of buying that gun! But I think he got a pretty good deal for only $600." So, Saeed, you see we all have our "Walter's" to make our lives interesting!! Sorry for the rambling - what WAS the topic here, anyway? Rick.

Clay bird at 100 yards with my S&W mod 627, off hand. (Not the first try...) Propped the clay against a dirt bank, got a feel for the hold over, and pop. [This message has been edited by Mike in SC (edited 01-14-2002).]

I used to shoot reduced pistol silhuette and across the range was a full size ram, about 450 yards. After the shoot we would plink at it with handguns. It was across a valley, which made for interesting holdover and windage, and on a large rock hillside, made spotting rounds easy. I shot almost 100 rounds of 357, hit it a couple times, had a pretty stiff wind to hold into. Used a 45 colt, it got a little better. A friend had a 454 casul, he hit it 4 out of 5 times, and I hit it twice out of 5 shots. What a rush. We had to get several sight-in shots, and I think we held at its nose to hit its rear, and a couple feet over. As far as hunting, I shot a hawk-sized bird out of a tree with my ruger auto 22 at 75 paces. The stupid thing sat there and let me shoot 3 times at it. Good luck and good shoooting

At 75 yds with a .22, the shot was just background noise to it, and the bullet was subsonic as it went by.

I owned a Contender in 7mm L&L until last year. My wife and eye drew atelope tags in '99. I took an average buck with 120 gr. Balistic tips at 297 paces (over uneven ground). We figured about 270 yards. one shot - behind one shoulder, out through the other.

Come on guys , give me some more ! It`s truly amazing that some of you are doing the (almost ) impossible , at least by rifle shooters standards !I personally shoot : field pistol scoped ( usually hit 28-30 with my Super Redhawk in .44 Magnum) Small Bore Unlimited (usually hit 33-35 with my Anschuetz ) and for pleasure a Contender in 7-30Waters Imp. at 100 meters , 5 shots in 1-1,5" from a sandbag , of course!

My personal best... When I was still shooting IHMSA silhouette, using my Contender in 7mm TCU, T/C Silhouette iron sights, from a standing position, I managed to hit 10 out of 10 turkeys at 150 meters. Shocked me and the guy next to me who was the state champ (standing). If I had done that well with the 50m chickens and 100m pigs, I would have ended up with a good score that day. Rick.
