TBear,
I have shot a 7-08 in a savage striker and the recoil really was not bad. I can assure you that it is far more mild than a 270 win.

Tell your co-worker to find new "exspurts to listen to.
Yes, misspelled on purpose.

7-08 has recoil, but "how much" it seems to be depends what pistols/handcanons your friend has shot in the past, if they reload and a lot of factors.
I don't own one, but shot a friends accross my chronograph. Seems like the 140 was in the 2300-24400 range as I remember it and the wasn't bad at all.

A portion of recoil is based on the effect from amount of powder burned and since the bullet weigths are are about the same only the 270 has MORE powder.

Recoil is a tolerance thing and one must . . . MUST FIRST use good hearing protection so they are able to tolerate te noise. After that it is easier to work up in recoil level (step up in powder and bullet weight once the trepidation is gone. I like to start someone shooting with plinker loads and cast boolits if possible.
Anticipation is the worst issue facing a new shooter of any firearm.

I've shot a 7mm/08 Encore with a 10 inch barrel but never a 270 Win. pistol barrel. I very much doubt, however, that the 7mm/08 recoil will be much different than the 270 and I suspect it will be more mild. I didn't think the 7mm/08 recoil was quite as bad as a 44 Mag.

If your friend is concerned, he should consider a muzzle brake.

I hunted with a 10" 7-08 for the last few years. The recoil is not bad but I was using my hand loads with a 120 BT. I shot a doe at 189 yds and another one at 210 yds. I also had the chance to shoot a 270 that my friend had cut from 15" to 10". To me the 270 had more punch, but I was shooting over the counter ammo. So if you friend is going to reload for the 7-08 or 270 it will be around the recoil. dancing
