Yesterday afternoon I was passing through Galyan's and, as always, parused the gun counter. Everything looked as usual, high prices to boot. I spied an ordinary Ruger Redhawk. Ordinary that is until I read the sales tag. The tag read it to be a seven shot .357 magnum. In disbelief I asked the clerk if I could examine it. Sure enough the cylinder had seven holes in it and the barrel was properly marked as a .357 mag. Has any one heard any info about this? As usual Rugers website is about one and a half years behind and the counter clerk knew little as well. I don't need or want to buy; just want to know if anyone else has seen or heard about Ruger reviving the Redhawk in .357 mag or any other new calibers.

If I recall correctly, Ruger used to chamber the 357 Magnum and 41 Magnum in the Redhawk but dropped these two calibers a while back. You were probably looking at one of the very earlier Redhawk models.

Cheers!

Ming,

You are correct. I have aa original Redhawk .357 mag but it is a six shooter as were the .41 mags. The one I looked at was a seven shooter, somthing I am sure Ruger has never offered before. If it is a newly cataloged item it's about time Ruger took advantage of the sheer size of the Redhawk for a mid-bore offering.

Well, maybe it was a custom Redhawk. Frankly, I do not see a need to chamber the Redhawk in 357 Magmum whether it is a 6-shot or a 7-shot. The current 357 Magnum GP-100 is a very strong revolver, not to mention that it has a better action design than the Redhawk platform. Also the Redhawk is very big so it is better suited for the bigbore chambering.

By the way, I have seen a lot of mention of the new 458 Lott chambering even in Ruger's own ad campaing but have not seen anything about a new Redhawk chambering. It will be quite a surprise if a new 357 Magnum Redhawk shows up.

Cheers! Ming
